Alexander held his glass, waiting. The grin that stretched over his face was like silent laughter, his eyes crinkling a little in delight. "To your Christmas boots," he agreed, hiding his chuckle. His shot disappeared with ease, he barely felt a sting in his throat. He'd chosen a mild liquor.
Apparently, though, not mild enough. He cringed as he got a faceful of alcohol. "I think half of your saliva is on my face," he grumbled, wiping at his cheek. "It's not for the taste, it's for the feeling afterward. But," he quickly amended himself, "it's not that great. At least now you can say you've taken a shot in the Faded. The other shepherdesses will quiver in fear."
He looked at Bela. "Thank you for the... stimulating conversation. We're leaving now." He stood to his feet and held out a hand to Nellie. "Ready to go?"

Bela couldn't help but grin at Nellie's toast; this was clearly her first time. "Not bad for your first time," she grinned.
"Oh, and the point of drinking these things voluntarily is to get as drunk as you can, as quickly as possible. And they're also good for drinking games," she added, grinning. Oh, that would be good. She and Alex could have a contest, perhaps, later. Ah, well; she'd keep trying to think of things that could get her out of her debt but somehow keep Alex as a friend, too.
Damn. She hadn't exactly lost his interest, but she'd made him suspicious. Well, there was one thing she could do that might help; they were trouble-makers, after all. Laughing, she leaned over to whisper in Alex's ear, "It takes two to really make some trouble." She'd let him interpret that how he would; she wasn't quite sure what she meant, anyway.
