The reality was, he didn't know any of these games. Blind Man's Bluff didn't sound too bad, though.
He gave her a crooked smile, lifting one shoulder in a shrug. "It's okay. I like your life. It interests me. And I know this is your favorite holiday. If you could rough it out at the Nightmare Masquerade, then I can man up and play some Strawberry Shortcake games."

Nellie grinned, quite eager to correct Alexander’s grievous error, “The Noightmare Masquerade an’ The Faded. I’m all sorts of tough, I am.” She kept her voice at a whisper. She didn’t need her family overhearing about her escapades into Nightmare territory. It was lucky, too, as a Peep girl, probably a year or so older than Nellie, skipped over from the crowded game of Blind Man’s Bluff.
“Eleanor, why don’t you an’ your friend join us, hmm?” She asked, cheerfully, tucking a stray piece of white-blonde hair into her bonnet.
Nellie glanced at Alexander, and he had just given her permission to involve him in any ‘Strawberry Shortcake’ games, so she agreed, “Alright.”
“’EY GUYS! Girls out, Nell’s gonna be the blind man!” The cousin called up to the throng of young Dreams. The girls stepped back, forming a circle, and Nellie spared a moment to beckon Alexander over, before bounding into the center to get blindfolded. The cousin who invited them over spun the blinded Nellie in a circle, three times, to get her nice and dizzy, before darting out of the circle herself. And the game was on.

Alexander tenatively followed her to the circle of blonde-haired Dreams, keeping a few paces behind her and checking to make sure his hat was on all the way. He'd always had the type of personality that doomed him to be the center of attention, but for the first time, he stood out in a bad way, and wanted nothing more than to blend in. "What?" he snapped at a lanky young Dream with green eyes and freckles, probably only a few years younger than himself. Marrying age. The boy averted his gaze quickly, muttering something that sounded suspiciously like, "Who pissed on your cotton candy?"
Alexander watched as Nellie spun around in circles. How had Nellie explained this game again? He was pretty sure it had something to do with kissing, which is why it had appealed to him. He wasn't sure he wanted Nellie to kiss him, and he definitely didn't want to lose, but if it wasn't him, then it had to be somebody else, and he didn't like that much either. One of the younger boys tugged on his sleeve.
"Yer s'posed to run, dummy," he said.
"Right, thanks," Alexander said and backed up a few paces, keeping a watchful eye on the other grinning boys and a stumbling Nellie.

Nellie squealed with delight as she got a touch of cloth, a brush of skin, the hint of a voice. The girls around the circle would cheer and scream out hints.
“LEFT ELEANOR! LEFT!”
“SO CLOSE!”
“GRAB HIM, NELL!”
Finally, Nellie lunged forward. Her hand brushed across Alexander’s cheek as she grabbed the boy next to him by the shoulder. “Gotcha!” She squeaked, pulling the boy toward her. She felt along his face until she oriented herself, and placed a big kiss on his cheek.
He pressed his lips together, trying to be as unidentifiable as possible. The cogs were turning beneath Nellie’s blindfold. “Ummmm…issit Thomas?”
“Which Thomas?” one of the girls called out from the ring.
Nellie thought about this question for a moment, “Thomas wiff the ugly buckteeth, not the one wiff the pitchfork scar.”
Some boy from the throng of blonds objected with a loud “Hey!” It was apparently ‘Thomas wiff the ugly buckteeth’.
“Wrong! Nellie, you’re in the middle again!”

So close. Alexander laughed out loud at Nellie's description of the boy she thought she'd grabbed. Okay, he could do this. Staying out of blind-Sheep Girl's way would be a piece of cake, especially since if he did get caught, it would be so obvious it was him. His skin ran a pretty toasty temperature, and he just had that creepy Nightmare vibe.
But he wasn't getting caught. He was nothing if not competitive, and now that he knew what was going on, he would really play.
Except, on the other side of the circle, an older boy was grinning, getting shoved toward Nellie, and not looking like he was putting up that much of a fight. Did he want to get caught?
Huh.
"Geez louize, did it just get hotter out here?" One of the girl's complained

It did feel a little warmer out, but Nellie figured that was just from running around. The close calls were infuriating but enticing. It made her just angry enough that she wanted to try harder to win.

Nellie was on the move. Alexander manevuered expertly through the swarm of kids until he was close enough to the older Dream boy to stick out his foot, discreetly of course, and send the unsuspecting boy tumbling to the ground. Except, in his triumph, Alexander had put himself right in the line of fire, too late to do anything about it.

Nellie stumbled over a bit of uneven ground, grabbing the arm of the figure in front of her. She grabbed his arm to pull him in closer and leaned in to kiss him. She caught the very corner of his lips in her blind attempt at a cheek-kiss, and she immediately pulled away, pressing her fingers to her lips in shock.
That was hot.
She knew exactly who she captured, not only from the skin temperature, but from his decided lack of cotton candy and hay aroma that all the others seemed to have. Nellie blushed. She just kissed Alexander. But, it was just part of the game, she assured herself. Game.
“Alex—“ she stopped, realizing how pathetically quiet that was. So she cleared her throat, and declared in a much more triumphant, loud voice, “Alexander!”
And no one could confirm or deny this, since no one knew him.

Caught. Snagged. Defeated. She pulled him in and he instinctively leaned away, panicked. Her lips left a scorching tingle behind them, and before he could stop himself, his face flamed (not literally, though it was an option). So that was what blushing felt like.
"Who's 'at?" somebody asked after a minute.
"Bingo," he said softly, and tapped her nose with a finger.
He stopped, a new horrific thought entering his mind. Did he have to wear the blindfold now?

Nellie pulled the blindfold off, and gaped. Was Alexander actually blushing? She grinned, “You’re not very good at this, are ya?”
She, almost reverently, handed him the blindfold. “I hope you were payin’ attention when I was namin’ off my folks,” She looked positively devious, “You’re gonna ‘ave a rather ‘ard time I think. Unless you want to give up already.”

He scowled. Stupid, smug, tingly-lips Sheep Girl. Now he had to go through with it.
He took the blindfold out of her hands and tried to mentally pep talk himself. So, he was a little out of his element. He could out kiss-tag any of these yuppies. No problem.
His eyes swept through the circle, taking silent inventory. He didn't remember any of them. Super.
He stood up and one of the Dream boys (the one he tripped) came over and tied the blindfold over his eyes. He was spun several times and he paused, tuning his sense up. This kind of battle-ready tactic was usually reserved for L.O.S. maneuvers, not playground games, but desperate times called for desperate measures. He could sense all of the dozen or so girls running away from him, moreso because they were Dreams, but it didn't help much. He needed to find Nellie, or he'd lose.
He chased the flock of girls, trying to ignore the shouts of all the boys. Shut up, shut up, he growled in his head. His fingers brushed over a flurry of lace and bows that he thought he recognized, but Nellie was headed in the wrong direction he predicted, and when he caught the waist of his target, it was the wrong girl. He kissed her right on the lips, realizing too late it wasn't Nellie he'd grabbed. She had to be at least as old as Nellie (thank Morpheus for small miracles; he could have kissed one of the eleven year olds), but he didn't have a clue who she was.
"Ehehah..." He pressed his lips together, shaking his head. He sighed. "...Daisy?" He guessed half-heartedly. He pulled the blindfold up and stared into the wide green eyes of a very shocked and amazed Peep cousin.
"Sarah," she corrected in whisper. Poor girl looked like she was going to faint.
And cue the second blush of the day. He kissed random Nightmare girls all the time and never felt guilty, but now he felt like he'd graffitied on a temple or something. He smiled his charm-all smile and did a very good job of looking bashful. "Sorry," he said.
She softened. Barely. "S'okay."
"Try again!" A boy shouted, and Alexander groaned.

Nellie snorted. Daisy? The only Daisy Peep was at least as old as her mother, probably twice as wide. Obviously, Alexander hadn’t paid much attention during introductions.
Nellie hiked up her skirts with the rest of the girls, and she was doing a grand job avoiding getting tagged (she was pro at games). But Peep children were notoriously mischievous. The girl who had initially invited Nellie into the game suddenly yelped, for seemingly no reason. “OUCH ELEANOR! THAT WAS ME FOOT!”
Nellie stared at her, wide-eyed, “W-wot?!” She then suddenly realized what was going on. She narrowed her eyes at the girl and tried make her whereabouts unknown once more.

Alexander gave a quiet, triumphant laugh under his breath. She was toast. That misguided "W-Wot?!" doomed her. He sprang, blindfolded, with more agility and strength than was probably required for a fun game of Blind Man's Bluff, tackling Nellie to the ground. They rolled once in the grass and he placed a noisy kiss on skin as soft and fragrant as rose petals. Distracted, he lingered a little longer than he meant to.
He cleared his throat and leaned away. "Yuuccck...." His mouth tilted into a sideways smile beneath the blindfold. "Must be Clementine."

She screamed as she was tackled to the grass. Nellie tried to wiggle out from underneath him, but as soon as his lips met hers she froze completely, except for the blush creeping into her cheeks. It wasn’t just the fact that she was laying underneath him, kssing, where everyone could see that was blush-inducing. When she realized how hard her heart was thumping against her ribcage, she turned a whole other shade of pink.
“Okay, okay,” she grumbled, trying her best to retract her blush (was that even possible?), as she slipped Alexander’s blindfold down, “yer right. Now couldja puh-lease get up offa me?”

He chuckled, looking all too delighted by the pink color flushing her cheeks. "As you wish," he said, and hopped off, reaching down to help her up.
He untied the blindfold from around the back of his neck. "I think I may be bluffed out," he told her. And it was her turn again, and he couldn't trip all her potential suitors.
