"No," Julien asked, a little puzzled. "Oh, sorry to interupt your, euh... trying-to-understand-zings moment, but I 'ave no idea what's going on."
Rather uncertainly, he asked, "Am I... supposed to do somezing, you zink?"

Armand smiled assuringly. "If you're not planning on leaving her, then why don't you marry her? Commit, if you are committed. I don't think October is planning on leaving you over it, but it has been over a century, and it might be nice to show her that you're not planning on backing out at the last minute."
He paused, and stopped playing, giving Julien his full attention. "But what do I know? You guys are the happiest couple I know, so maybe nothing needs to happen."

"Euh?"
For some reason, the idea had never occurred to Julien. Propose to his girlfriend? Eh? After a moment, the idea still remained as startling as it had been thirty seconds ago.
"Why would I back out?" Julien asked, fairly puzzled. He was the very definition of idiosyncratic; if he thought something in his semi-illogical hops and leaps from premise to conclusion, he became exceedingly puzzled when someone didn't follow them. The idea of leaving October was as bizarre to him as going out sunbathing.
"... crap. Do you know anyzing about jewelery?"

Armand was unable to determine if any of his meaning had actually sank in, or if he had just confused Julien further.
Jewelry? Well, they were on the right path, at least. Probably.
He held up his hands as if the piano had suddenly turned to molten lava. "No. And I am the last person to give advice on anything relationship wise, besides."

Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerde. He was in trouble.
"Nom de Dieu," Julien muttered. "Let's see. I need a ring and a... lot of things I have to think up in advance. Well, merde. Zis all sounds like far more trouble zan eet's worth."
He shook his head. "Well, euh... I'm sure... your situation ees not as bad as eet seems. You don't 'ave to go jewelry shopping. You just 'ave to decide between two unusually determined girls, both of whom you like and find attract... actually, eet does sound vairy bad. Sorry, Armand."

He smiled unevenly. "It'll be fine," he said, but it wasn't very convincing. He pushed the piano seat back and stood up.
Studying his godfather speculatively, he said, "Maybe you should ask my mom for help?" he suggested lightly. "I, uh... I really don't know anything. About anything."

"Ha, like I believe zat," Julien said, rolling his eyes. "Let's focus on your problem, eh? Because, 'onestly, I look forward to 'aving to propose wiz ze same unalloyed 'orror I feel for leprosy and ozzair dangerous skin diseases. Bah, ca, c'est ridicule, les demands de l'amour!"
He threw up his hands. "You know what, Armand? We are obviously not cut out for zis. Women are just lying in wait to trip us up."

Armand's eyes widened in pretty convincing horror, one brow arching. "I've always suspected," he said seriously.
"I say we tackle your problem first, actually. My problem can't be helped. It is an impossible situation with no solution in sight. Yours on the other hand, has a very probable happy ending."

Julien nodded vigorously. "Yes! I bet zat zey 'ave books and everyzing on it." He hit his open palm with his fist. "Bah, zat is waht iz in zose romance novels of Octobair's- I bet is all tips to see 'ow to trip us up."
He shifted uneasily from foot to foot. Well now they had to talk about it and it was still too new for Julien to feel capabale of doing anything but complaning about it. "Fine. If you were Octobair, what... would you be expecting?"

Armand looked pained. "If I were October..." he mused. I probably would already have found a solution to every problem anyone had, he thought, somewhat amused.
"Er... well. What would you expect if she proposed to you?"

"To be very, very surprised," Julien replied. "I mean, is ze man 'oo generally proposes. Euh."
Meeeeeeeeeeeeeerde, he was baaaaaaaaaaaaad at this. Snap out of it Julien! He had confessed his love onstage literally thousands of time and he... hm, come to think of it, there weren't that many marriage proposals in opera.
Whoops.
"You see, zis is why I nevair proposed before. I 'ave no idea what to do. I mean- more zo zan usual."
