"You had better believe that I told him what happened to her. And he knew, he knew about the possession; he was there to see some of the results! But he didn't see what it did to her, long term." She sighed again, shaking her head. "Through much yelling and cursing at him, I finally got him to agree to go talk to her."
Of course, that had been like skinning a still-living cat that just happened to actually be a lion. "I haven't seen her since. But you should have seen what she looked like when I saw her; it was horrible. Her hair, which is usually lovely and pretty, is stringy and thin. She's pale, horribly pale, not like she usually is, but as though she has never been outside in her life. I have never seen her so thin; it is literally frightening," she said, telling them pretty much what she'd told Armand, minus the extra ses.

Mikhail couldn't help but wrinkle his nose slightly at the graphic description. He had remembered the singer as rather pleasing to look at, and it always stung a little to have a pretty one ruined.
"Has he, then?" He asked curiously, eyebrows lifting just slightly, "Been to see her, I mean, of course." He couldn't imagine it had been pretty, if he had.

Samantha mimicked Mikhail's expression. It was always so sad to let true beauty go to waste. She looped a hand through the crook of Mikhail's arm, as if they were at a scary movie showing or something.
"I haven't seen him around..." She trailed off uncertainly.

"I don't know if he's been to see her, but if I see him again and he hasn't been, trust me, that won't be pretty, Crown Prince or not." This subject was getting to her. She had already been furious about it and quite frankly, she still was. But it was time to change the subject.
"But enough about that," Bela began, forcing a smile. "Mikhail, when did you get back in the city; it's been ages!" And now her smile was genuine. "And Samantha, I have not been to the Opera House in a while, but if I know my mother, she would want to have you in the leads; I'll talk to her." Bela might be a rebel and a rockstar, but she knows good art when she sees it and Samantha certainly had been that tonight.

Nearly purring at the praise given to his companion, Mikhail gave Samantha's cheek and affectionate stroke, "She is darling, isn't she?" He agreed happily.
"And as for myself, I've only just arrived yesterday." He replied with a chuckle, "Though I'm not without some interesting stories already, I must say."

Samantha perked up immediately. She'd talk to Annie? Oh, that would be positively delightful. She beamed at Mikhail and then softened her smile at Bela. "Thank you. And Mikhail seems to be a magnet for interesting stories. Nothing he does is ever boring."
She tightened her hold just barely on his arm. Now that her gossip appetite had been sated, it was time to get back to her dressing room.

"Oh, si, it is no problem," Bela told Samantha. "Even I can appreciate true art when I see it," she added, grinning. Yes, Samantha was talented, but the Opera would never be the same when Iseabail and Julien were not on the stage.
Glancing at the watch she wore only for occasions like this, Bela did a double-take. "Oh, dear, I've got to go; I have an appointment with my mother. Mustn't be late or she'll be cross," she explained needlessly; Annie was notorious for preferring punctuality. "Have a lovely evening, you two." And to Mikhail, she added, "Give me a call sometime, now that you are back; we can get together or something." With that, she gave them both one last smile and made her way out the ornate double doors that her father had built, off to meet her mother.

Giving Bela a nod and a warm smile, Mikhail turned to Samantha, "I suppose we should get you back to your room, mm? You must be exhausted, darling." He chuckled, beginning to lead the young woman carefully through the backstage crowd.
A small grin crossed his lips, "And I must say, congratulations."

"Goodbye Arabela," Samantha said cheerily. Arm laced through Mikhail's she let him lead her through the now dwindling crowds backstage, until they reached the door of her dressing room, at which point she grinned and said, "Why thank you," and pinned him to the door, kissing him full on the lips. She winked coyly. "Let's celebrate."
