"I think you've arrived," he said dryly. "Maybe you should learn to walk on your hands."
He didn't mean it literally, but more in the figurative sense that she should find something to occupy her time that she didn't need her legs for.
"Do you want one of those twenty walks now?"

"I can't do much besides read, count and..." Her eyes trailed down to the angry design on her arm "...draw."
She tried not to but when he mentioned the walk she couldn't help but smile widely. Getting out of the bed she'd been in for way too long was such a lovely prospect. She took her hand away from his arm and leaned back on the pillow. "But we don't have a wheelchair."

"It would take training," he said, examining her carefully like an artist to a canvas. "But there's other things you could do."
He rolled from the bed to his feet, looking down at her. "Not yet, no. I'll have to do."

"Whatcha mean?" He better not get her hopes up for nothing. Even if she got better before she mastered it, the training itself would be something to do. Something to occupy the long span of hours that had been torturous so far.
He'd have to do? He wasn't suggesting...."Like a piggy-back?" She asked, somewhat surprised Vince would allow such a thing, even after how nice he'd been lately.

"No," he replied, smirking. "In case you've forgotten, your legs don't work. I'll carry you." And thus said, he bent and scooped her into his arms, though he paused halfway, giving her an uncertain look. "If that's alright."

Mary leaned her head against his chest and smiled up at him. Not only was she getting out of the four walls of this now-confining tent, it wasn't so bad being held by Vince. She looped an arm around his back to give herself a better hold.
"It's better than a piggy back ride." She joked and tried to not falter in Good Cheer, even though the whole scene was kind of pathetic.
