Zizzy watched Genn mummify herself in black and shook her head. "It'll only take a second, you should avoid the sun." She hopped out of the carriage and hurried into the building. It seemed a lot less scary than the last time she'd been here.
---
Fortunately, the hospital had been quite and so Camilla had been in her office. It didn't take long at all before Zizzy was clambering back into the carriage. She had a bright smile on. "The baby's healthy, the scars are gone." Her glow had become more concentrated, she waved an illuminated hand uselessly, "Sorry, can't help it." Nor could she keep the smile off her face.

Genn had just barely cracked open Emma by the time Zizzy returned, looking much more cheerful . “I’m really glad to hear. And don’t worry about it. We both have our conditions; you make light, I can’t go out in it.”
She took her puppy into her own lap and stowed the book under the seat of the carriage. “I have to tell you, Zizzy, I’m actually kind of excited to be an auntie.”

"No U.V in mine, though. I don't think it'll bother you." She really, really hoped not anyways. The last thing she needed was for one of the family members to be actually allergic to her.
Genn couldn't know how much that meant to her. That someone besides her was happy about this baby. Her smile grew wider. "Thank you Genn." She said sincerely, "That...it doesn't seem like anyone else is."

“ Not yet,” Genn assured, “But I think once the initial anger wears off, my Dad will be a little stoked. Oh and Aunt Illie! As soon as she finds out, you’re going to have a wave of tiny sweaters. You won’t even be able to move, you’ll have so many sweaters.” Genevieve laughed, nudging Zizzy’s foot with her own. “But I cannot promise mother will warm up to the idea of having a grandchild any time soon.”

She could picture that of Illie, and it made her smile. "Ah, no, I can't see your mom warming up to me at all." Although she didn't sound that self-pitying. "Oh geeze Genn, you should have seen Vince when I asked for maternity leave. If I hadn't been so scared, I might of found it funny. He looked at me like I had deadly parasite." She was able to laugh about it now at least.
"You'll be a great Aunt I think."

Genevieve frowned, “It’s not you she dislikes,” not actively at least, “it’s the idea of aging. Mom’s always hated it. And since she hasn’t gradually grayed or wrinkled like other people, things like having children, and now having a grandchild, it’s like her suddenly aging like fifty human years. I know you’ve got to be a little offended and hurt, but you have to think about it, just for a second, from her point of view, as an extremely vain woman.” Genn knew her mother very well. Almost eerily well.
Just imagining Vince’s response to this news made Genn giggle. That was because she wasn’t there to see it. “I bet it was terrifying, but hilarious, in retrospect.” A little cheerful blush spread through her cheeks. “Thanks, Zizzy.”

Zizzy found that a little hard to swallow, but she didn't say anything. She got the distinct feeling Pia wasn't all that happy with her from the beginning, but it also wouldn't surprise her if she was just being paranoid. "I'm not offended, or anything. They kind of have every right to be angry." I just hope she doesn't always hate me.
"Only in retrospect. When he asked me if it was Armand's---he really doesn't care about social graces, does he? Even if it wasn't I would've said yes for fear of my life." She grinned and looked out the carriage window. They were approaching what she assumed was the shopping district. She'd never really shopped before outside of road-side stands, never really having the money. Thankfully, she was a good hand with a sewing machine she could self-power when needed.
"Hey, we can stop for lunch at one point right? I'm eating like a hippo lately."
