It was clear that he was sorry. He wouldn’t have apologized otherwise; he didn’t apologize when he kissed Zizzy. He kinda just told her ‘Hey, I kissed Zizzy’ and then went to sleep. This time he brought candy and flowers and looked very pained. “I know y’ are,” Nellie said softly. She sighed and put her anger away for a rainy day. Because, really, what else was she going to do? If she stayed mad at him, she had no where else to go to cool off, no confidante to vent to, not another soul in this world to turn to. So she said, “I forgive you,” and laid her head on his shoulder, blinking a few tears onto his shirt. “Sorry I yelled.”

She was sorry. Of course. He wrapped her in his arms and had to watch that he didn't squeeze her too hard. He didn't care what Marie said. He wasn't going back there again until this had run out of his system. Nothing was worth making Nellie cry.
"Hey, pretty girl," he murmured in her ear. "Let's do something happy. If it doesn't include me, that's okay. I'd like to see you smile."

Nellie’s pathetic little sniffle was followed close behind by an astounded giggle. “Did you just admit that there’s fun fings wot don’t involve you?” This was a truly a historic day. Nellie yelled and Alexander just said that something would be okay without him. In a second, everything was going to dissolve into chaos.
“When it snows, can we go in a sled? In a horse-drawn sled? I’ve always wanted to, but we never ‘ad one,” Nellie explained. She found talking about unrelated subjects eased the pain in her heart, so she was quite liberal with the subject jumps. “Loik in the Christmas song, ‘On a one-horse opppen sleigh’.”

Half of his mouth hitched up in a crooked smile. "Incidentally, the world can revolve without me. Occasionally." He'd insult himself more often for that laugh.
His eyes crinkled in amusement. "Sure. I'm the best accessory for snow rides. I'm cozy."

“Stop sayin’ ‘at, stop sayin’ ‘at!” Nellie begged, placing her hand lightly over Alexander’s mouth and looking around suspiciously, “Someone might ‘ear you an’ then the ‘ole world’ll be all in shambles!”

He grinned beneath her hand. Gingerly removing her by the wrist, he gave a dutiful sigh. "You're right. Keep the spotlight where it belongs." A fire halo appeared over his head and cackled for a few seconds.
Since she was so close anyway, he wrapped his hands around her waist, and rest his linked fingers on her hip.

Nellie’s eyes sunk closed as she followed Alexander’s cue and leaned against him and slipped her arms under his, joining them in a hug. “Wot are we doin’ for Chrissmas?” She asked, eagerly, trailing her fingers down his back. “Goin’ to yer parents’?”
