In the silence following his 'Oh.' Camilla had begun to worry. Her own eyes had widened and a slight worried frown tugged her lips downwards. What if he said no? What if she was about to scare him off like she did every guy? What if---
"Oh." She repeated without really meaning to, before smiling, quintessentially Dreamy, and kissing him again, soft and sweet. A happiness bloomed somewhere in her chest when she thought that she could get used to this and that maybe he wouldn't be leaving anytime soon.

He returned the kiss, feeling as if he could melt into her.
"Miss Clarke is taking a sick day today. The Straight and Narrow won't be open." He traced a finger down the side of her face, along her jaw. "Do you have to go to work?"

Camilla shook her head. She had indeed been working at the hospital once it seemed like no one was coming after her. She couldn't really believe it, but it was looking like she was going to get away with freeing three criminals from the Rissa. But even work no longer compared with time spent with Jasper.
"No work." God, he rendering her incapable of intelligent speech. "The hospital can manage without me for a bit." The concession of the century right there.

Who'd have thought she was even capable of uttering that sentence? It made the day suddenly precious. He imagined the hospital, though capable of surviving for a bit, would eventually crumble into chaos for any longer than a bit, and it wouldn't take Cherry long to get her mustard back, so the time given to them now needed to be savored.
"What do you want to do?" he asked. He knew what he wanted to do, and it didn't involve going any further than their bedroom.... but probably they could do that and other things.

Her thoughts on what they should do definitely did not involve leaving the apartment, but she stopped herself for a moment. It was rare they had a day together, they'd both be back at work soon. "Would you like to visit Diaspro and James?" She wondered if he missed them, she was sure he was curious about their well-being, at the very least.
"Just for a little while, though." She said with a small grin, "You're mine for today."

His brows arched. That wasn't what he'd expected to hear.
"Yes, I...." He frowned. "I've been wondering about them." And worrying. But he didn't want to sound like a total mother hen.
"A short visit," he assured her, and though he hadn't saved much, he had some money, and he'd give it to them if they needed it.

Without further ado, Camilla gripped his hand and poofed outside the mouth of the cave. Diaspro had written them the location, and she'd fixed it in her mind for moments such as these. Letting go of Jasper's hand, she opted to stay at the opening. "You go in. I'll, wait for you here." Last time she'd been in the Eye of the World mountains, she hadn't exactly had a positive experience.
She kissed him quickly on the cheek. "Take your time."

His hand dropped, empty and lonely, at his side. The same hollow sensation he sometimes got in his palm after holstering his gun. Same feeling, different pistol.
He froze after he'd taken two steps inside the cave. Someone had definitely been living here, but the arrangements were strewn about as if a tornado had flown inside.
He rushed back outside, his mouth a hard line. "Something happened," he said tonelessly.

Camilla's eyes widened. Had they been found? She hurried into the cave, the meek light not enough for her eyes so she lifted her wand and it cast a cheery glow on the dismal evidence. A struggle had definitely taken place. She looked carefully on the floor and picked up a shell from a bullet. She showed Jasper, who had much better experience with guns than she.
"I'm so sorry. But there's no blood. So it wasn't James that got shot."

He fingered the shell silently.
That was good news, he told himself. James couldn't take a bullet half as well as Diaspro. His stony expression crumbled for just an instant, then he sucked in a sharp breath.
"I should have been here."

"If you had been here, you would be where-ever they are now too. And you couldn't help them." She didn't know what to do, but she had a sinking feeling about what would happen now. Seeing his expression saddened her, and she placed a hand on his arm. "We'll find them and get them out. Don't worry." She suspected they'd been arrested, because who else would be after them? Camilla had gotten away with springing them once, but she thought she might be pushing her luck doing it a second time.
However, that look on Jasper's face wasn't going to let her do anything else. Maybe there was a way to less directly involve herself in their escape. Instantly, she felt guilty for the selfish thought, but she did have responsibilities and it wasn't like she could just ditch them to rescue criminals because Jasper felt bad. And now Jasper probably wouldn't stay with her. She frowned and pushed that aside. So not the thing to be worrying about right now.
"Let's be careful though." She hated herself even as she said it. "I don't want us to get into any trouble." She didn't think she was fooling anyone with that 'us'. q
