"Sure, thing," said Gavin. "Sorry, Your Highness. If I were gay, the awkward would be mitiaged by the fact that even I could do better than you. Come on."
He walked after Alex, wishing he'd thought to bring a knife or something, and spotted Samantha and David.
Who... sort of appeared to be absorbed in each other.
And very unconcerned with the fact that they'd left him in a burning building.
Great.
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, perfectly fine. Gee, being abandoned by my friends in a burning building sure was the highlight of my week! Even beats out last Saturday, when a dragon fell on top of me and nearly crushed me to death. Fun, fun, fun!"
Feeling much too ticked off to care that Alex got slapped or that Samantha was furious over the destruction of the Gaia, Gavin merely seized Alex's arm to make sure he wouldn't run off and glared at David. "Oh, and you. My best friend! I'm Amish shunning you. From here on out, you don't exist to me." Yeah, like that was going to a. last or b. be effective. He made a vague waving motion with his free hand. "See this? Invisible barrier. Blocks out the sound of your voice. Would do the same to you, Miss Cross, except I know you're self-centered and kind of a bitch so I didn't really expect you to care at all. Don't get me wrong! I've always found bitchiness attractive, but you've got yourself a warning. One more abandoning-me-to-death stunt and I will pointedly ask other people to ask you to pass the salt."

Samantha stared at Gavin, a bit flabberghasted. Yes, she was a bit of a bitch, and yes, it was the general opinion. But he was usually so.... nice. It was a different experience hearing it from him. "B-But...." She wished she could have managed something more coherent. The thing that really got her was that for the first time ever, she hadn't been wholly self-centered. She had actually cared. And the rare occurence had been wasted on someone who, obviously, thought fit to judge otherwise before he actually knew.
Well, fine.
Hiding her hurt, she tilted her chin in the air, eyes cool. "No warning is necessary, Sir Gavin. I'll just get my salt for myself, if you don't mind." She tried to keep her mild glare icy, but it slipped somewhat when she asked, after a few moments, "....you are alright, then, though?" He didn't appear to be burned--- and what the hell? Damn concern.

Wait, what?
Everything happened so blindingly fast that David was struggling to keep up with what was happening. Samantha...slapped someone, Gavin was yammering about a barrier and what?
It took a while for his mind to process every little bit of information that was being rammed at it. It probably wasn't a good thing that after Gavin's anger had finally registered the foremost thought on David's mind was how empty his arms felt. Shaking his head angerily, because suddenly his stomach felt like a pit of snakes. It always happened when he'd managed to fail as a friend.
Daviid took a step forward towards Gavin. "No...Gavin...she was panicking. Because of you. She was panicking because she thought you were going to get hurt. There's nothing between her and me. You know that. There can't be."

Happy as she was to see Alexander getting smacked she wasn't, technically, supposed to let that happen while he was in her custody. Moving quietly and forgoing a verbal interjection, Mercedes imposed herself between the young lady and Alexander in case someone decided to go for an encore.
"Señor," she prompted. Mercedes was torn. While she wanted to deal with Bela as quickly as possible, she was sort of enjoying having Alexander in cuffs. To drag her feet or hurry it up...? Mercedes touched Gavin's arm. If he decided to stay and have it out with his acquaintances then she'd wait for him.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Gavin said, about as nastily as he could manage (it was like being savaged by a teddy bear- one that was probably pastel colored, fuzzy, had a bow tie, and a strange name like Mr. Foo-Foo), "but did someone say something?"
He pointed at the empty air in front of him. "Because, whoops! I've got up my invisible barrier of Amish shunning! I can't hear anything from supposed friends who left me in a firey tomb! I- what?" Gavin turned to look at Mercedes. "Sorry. Hang on, just need to guilt-trip these people who left me for dead in a burning building. Where was I?"
Oh right, listening to what they had to say. Psh. Like he was in any frame of mind to believe anything David said at the moment. Best friends didn't leave best friends to die in uncontrollable fires. Just wasn't done.
"Oh! Miss er... League of Shadows person- Zorro, isn't it?- while you're here! Could you please tell the self-centered Dream on your left that I shockingly have not burned to a crisp, though I very well could have and all the salt in the world will not change the fact that my best friend, that seriously messed up guy on your right, left me to my doom and that will turn all food into ashes in my mouth. Comforting a panicking... psh. Yeah. I believe that from the guy who abandoned me in the middle of a fire."

Alexander smirked to himself as Mercedes positioned herself between him and line-of-fire. "Ah, my gallant protector," he mused softly to her. He listened to Gavin for a few moments and had to snicker, despite his current predicament. It was difficult to take the "shunning" very seriously.
Samantha rolled her eyes. "Oh, honestly. You're worse than a child!" she snapped. "I'm so very pleased to learn you haven't burned to a crisp. And now, I think it's best we remove ourselves, irritating, betraying burdens that we are, from your presence." She gripped David's arm, practically yanking him forward. "Come on, David."

What?
Why was Samantha touching him? Didn't she see? He removed himself from her grasp and took a few steps away, back towards Gavin.
"Mate, c'mon." There was a pathetic pleading tone creeping into his tone. Gavin was the only friend he didn't have to pretend to be friends with. He couldn't lose that.
"Gavin, please. You know I can't...not be a good friend. I thought you were fine! You tackled the Prince for pete's sake! You were hardly trapped under a wooden beam. I'm sorry!"

She shot Alexander a look and kept her hand on Bela's elbow. If she weren't on duty she'd probably of smacked him herself. Getting her sister involved in this... Couldn't he have just burned down the building with someone else?
"Mercedes. Take your time," she said with a half-smile. Waiting it is, then. She would have been amused by the conversation if she hadn't had her hand on her cuffed, felon sister. Mercedes smiled at the lady when asked, rather childishly, to relate the ramble. Fortunately, the woman didn't seem to expect a repeat of the message from her.
Someone shouted to her from the building. Mercedes turned to see a co-worker give her the all clear. They'd contained the blaze, then. Mercedes could feel her shoulders relax at the news. Small favors. Now all she had to do was transport a couple of criminals and have a hellish finish to her increasingly crappy day.

"Funny, did I hear something?" Gavin looked around pointedly. "Because, you know, I sort of thought I did, but since my barrier of Amish Shunning is up, I don't notice when my- ha!- friends are going to leave, just like when they left me in a burning building."
He stared up at the sky throughout David's entreaties. "Oh, again, my barrier of Amish shunning protects me from the fiendish insinuations of my former best friend! 'Cause, y'know, I was in that building a good... what? Five minutes? My not immediately rushing out didn't cause any concern? Well, that's okay, because I'm off doing the knightly, noble thing and locking up an arsonist."

At least David was being good enough to apologize. Samantha was far too irritated to even attempt such a thing at this point. Not, evidently, that it was doing David much good. It was the first time she'd seen Gavin be openly so rude. David was bordering on pathetic for how much he wanted his friend to forgive him (and he was even telling the truth!) but Gavin didn't even have the maturity to answer him directly.
Or perhaps she was so angry at Gavin that she was just seeing things how she wanted to, but either way. "I'll see you later, David," she said, pointedly ignoring Gavin, before gathering up her skirts and storming off.

With Samantha's departure and Gavin's total unwillingness to listen, David felt hopeless and decided now was the time for alot of drinking.
He gave a weak half-salute towards the Knight and tried one last time. "Really mate, I'm sorry." But he didn't wait for Gavin to shove his Amish wall of Shunning or whatever in his face again. Turning, he left in the opposite direction, heading home.

Bela's face fell as soon as she heard Mercedes change the "Morpheus Rights" to suit her sister. Damn. She was going to have to deal with her mother. Although, Bela couldn't say she was surprised, but this day had been worth it, absolutely. She wouldn't take it back even if it meant she had to stay in the Rissa for a while.
Laughing slightly, Bela told Gavin, "Oh, setting things on fire is fun; you really should try it sometime." Her attention was brought back to her sister as Mercedes roughly pulled her towards the exit. "Aunque fijamos el Gaia en el fuego, tu no tiene que ser tan áspero. Especialmente con Alex," she literally hissed at Mercedes. "Puedo ser su hermana pero él es príncipe del reino." Even though she was a trouble-making fiend, Bela cared deeply for her sister; she didn't want Mercedes to get in trouble for arresting Alex (though she doubted she would, but still).
"Feel free to blame me," she told Alex in a bit of an undertone after Samantha had slapped him. It had been her idea, after all, and she wasn't above taking blame where it was due.
She snickered at Gavin's words. Even he could do better than Alex? Not likely. She was about to say something to this effect when Gavin started ranting at his friends. Ah, well, she supposed it could wait.
"de Zorro," Bela corrected Gavin automatically. She may not be too fond of her mother, but she was certainly proud of her heritage. Not everyone was a de Zorro, after all, and the "de" needed to be included.
Snorting a bit at Alex's description of Mercedes, Bela muttered to him, "One sister's a gallant protector, the other's a apuro-fabricacio'n del diablo," making sure her tone told him what she was saying.
She sighed, wondering how much longer they were going to stand out here listening to Dreams exchange insults. It was too bright to do that; couldn't they just go back to the Rissa and get the confrontation with her mother over with? Ah, but of course Mercedes would want to make things as difficult for her sister as possible; Bela would keep her mouth shut or risk staying in Dreamland much longer.

"¿Un príncipe?" Mercedes drawled in mock-astonishment, shooting Alexander a knowing, borderline malevolent smirk. He wasn't walking on this one, príncipe or not. She had the brat.
"Come on, Arabela," Mercedes instructed, her voice strained and suddenly weary. "El príncipe, también. Sir, if you would...?" Mercedes beckoned to Gavin, as it seemed his friends had departed sufficiently chastised.
She chose to willfully ignore Bela's apprentice-to-the-devil comment. The girl was high on adrenaline and spouting nonsense. Mercedes managed to lecture her sister nearly the entire way to the Rissa merely because she knew it would aggravate Bela. Mercedes couldn't even bring herself to look at Alex, feeling she'd either smirk in a completely unproffesional manner or try to strangle him.
