Name: Sir Gwalchgwyn the Greene Knighte, Maedenie’s Knighte, Defeandere of Wertue. … just call him Gavin. That would work better.
Age: Nearing 1000
Gender: Male
Group: Dream
Occupation: Knight Errant and beleaguered civil servant
Appearance: There isn’t anything very remarkable about Gavin’s appearance, once he takes off all the armor. Gavin is a green-eyed blond, with otherwise unmemorable features. He’s very wiry, fairly muscled, and of average height. He has a crooked smile that makes him look almost handsome, and a nice laugh. Though rather scarred from his years of knighthood, he tries to keep his lance wounds, etc. covered up. To that end, when he’s not in armor, or not in work clothes, he gravitates towards polo shirts, jeans, and high-tops. He’s not particularly picky, as long as they don’t show dirt and don’t show that weird sword-wound scar on his chest.
Personality: Gavin’s bright in every sense of the word. He’s extremely quick and clever, with a sort of tarnished optimism that keeps him vaguely hoping that everything will turn out differently than it does even though he’s fairly sure it won’t. Gavin has the patience of a saint, though there’s a sense of resignation to it, and though he’ll listen to anyone who comes to talk to him, he’ll often start snarking away at them in the safety of his head. He’s calm, chivalrous, compassionate, humble, grave, good-humored, sardonic, and slightly cynical. He is, however, chivalrous to the last, and follows the chivalric Authurian code even if he’s not sure why anymore (he believed in it once; he’s kind of apathetic about it now). Gavin will feel obligated to help anyone who asks and will do it, even if he does it with about the same enthusiasm he feels for pocket lint. He tends to be distinctly informal, and, when it comes to his desk job, decidedly world-weary. He also has a natural ability to get things done, and is extremely loyal. Gavin dislikes rain intently (he rusts) and despises anything that smacks of conscious wrong-doing. He generally stops himself before actively hating anything or disliking someone, though that doesn’t keep him from hiding in the bushes to avoid feeling a knightly obligation to help someone he can’t stand. Though a Dream, Gavin is more or less egalitarian, and will never understand the animosity between Dreams and Nightmares, which is why he took a job in the government in the first place. He also has a bit of a British accent.
Powers: As the dream of sunshine, his strength waxes and wanes with the sun (and yes, it sucks), and he has some control over the weather. He can create light when he wants to, and encourage things to grow. Aside from the usual knightly accomplishments (swordfighting, tilting, riding, mounting a horse in full armor, knowing how to use the bathroom while in full armor, etc), Gavin can read and write (rare for the time he was born). At one point in time, he could cheer people with his presence, but now he’s much too apathetic (except for very early in the morning) to be really effective.
Other Information: He was born with medieval romances of knightly virtue and moved on to be the dream of sunshine, which was much more less high-stress than being a knight archetype (“knight-in-shining armor” always reminds him that he hasn’t actually polished in ages). On weekends, you can find Gavin in full armor, riding his beleaguered horse around the Woodland Pastures, half-heartedly seeking adventure and noble deeds to perform. The rest of the week, he cringes his way to the castle, where he heads up the Dream department of the bureaucracy. He doesn’t really like either job anymore, but feels obligated to fulfill them and thus will never quit. He also has a fairy godmother, which is the big float in the continual Parade of Humiliation that is his life.
