Name: “Typhoid” Mary Mallon
Age: 152 (looks about thirty)
Gender: Female
Group: Nightmare, some residual prejudices concerning dreams.
Occupation: Second in Command at the League of Shadows.
Appearance: Mary has not aged much in the past century or so. Her hair is still that silky, vibrant fire-truck red, her skin still that sickly tan. Although she’s not as cushy as she used to be. Instead, thanks to Vince, she’s got an athletic 5’8 build that he forces her to keep up whether or not she threatens to infect him with the black plague. Her look has toned down a bit, however. While leather is never quite absent from her wardrobe, it’s usually in one piece now, and she no longer had on display the iron-wreath style tattoo wrought around her belly button.
She’s got brown eyes, and they’re perhaps one of the healthier things about her. She’s got one hell of an infectious grin, or so people say.
Personality: Super-quick to jump to conclusions, especially negative ones. She’s anti-social with anyone who isn’t in her ‘family’, although she isn’t as quick to a fight as she used to be. There’s no mouth-to-mind filter on her still, and so she ends up offending people horribly without actually meaning to.
She’s a lot more self-deprecating then her easily confident manner and sometimes flirtatious ways would allow to come across, although having found people whom she loves dearly (even Vince), she doesn’t carry around as much bitter as she used too. She’s fiercely loyal to Jack and them, whom she fought alongside during the entire rebellion (even after a bit of a rocky start).
A lot has changed about her, she’s softer, kinder, and less able to go off without warning, but she still has got a major temper on her.
Powers: Mary is the Nightmare of Disease, and as such, can infect anyone with any disease with a single touch of fingers-on-skin. However, once she calls the disease into contagion, she must infect someone or it’ll turn on her (part of the reason she can’t remember much before coming to the circus). Vince has fixed that problem for her in a way, providing her with small vials filled with a liquid that can contract diseases.
She provides painkillers to the hospital in the form of this liquid, infected with Congential Insensitivity to Pain with Anhidrosis.
Notes: She is one of the only two residents of the Cirque de Louis, and defends her solitude (which she shares with a cranky mummy) with passion.
History: Mary accidentally infected herself with Alzheimer’s a looong while back. While she still retains most of the memories of her past, she can’t quite recall where she was living before the Cirque de Louis.
What she does remember is decades of being treated (mostly because she acted the part) of a varmin. Of bar fights, and bruised eyes and poverty.
When she first came to the circus, the resident mummy, Vince Delano, tried to chase her off with no success whatsoever. Although the tollbooth he granted her to sleep in was hardly cozy. Over time (lots and lots of time) the two became something closely resembling friends. When the rebellion, headed by Julien De Sang came around, she was one of the few people to fight for King Jack.
Ever since she’s remained at the Circus and a constant companion (often times to his chagrin) of Vince, and although you’d probably have to beat it out of her, Mary does love him more then anyone she knows.
