Zizzy glared at him angrily. Did he honestly think she could manage that distance? He swam smooth as an otter, and he was going to die laughing when he saw her attempt. She waffled and then took a step towards him, balancing on her tippy toes. But soon her feet lost purchase on the sand and she was swimming! Towards him, slowly and then, and then she was sinking.
She tried really hard not to panic though, since it would mean a deepfried boyfriend. Her eyes were open and she watched the progress of her descent, a hand clutched over her nose and her mouth clamped shut because she would remain rational. She would. He wouldn't let her drown, he wouldn't. Her lungs were burning but it would only be a matter of seconds, she was sure...

The distance was about a yard, maybe. He'd thought she would kick off, maybe flail uselessly a bit, paddle some, and he'd grabbed her. But no. She'd move an inch and sank. It was almost comical, watching her plug her nose as she slipped under.
He dipped, he didn't have to go far, and pulled her up, keeping one arm around her torso. He tried, very hard, to keep his face straight, devoid of laughter. "Well, uh... you weren't kidding, huh?"

She took a deep, gulping breath and then studied his face carefully. "It's not funny." But, even she had to admit it wasn't exactly somber. "No, I wasn't. I can't do this on my own." She muttered and then let out a small chuckle at her own expense.
"I'm pathetic, huh?" Zizzy asked, slinging an arm around his neck to help her stay afloat.

He chuckled and kissed her cheek. "You're not.... so pathetic. And you're also light, easy to hold up. No chance of drowning."
The sun had fully risen now, lighting up the lake. "Ready to try again?"

Zizzy sighed and nodded. "Don't let go this time." She said, finding his hands and holding onto them. She watched him, the way he was treading water effortlessly and wished there was just one thing about him that was kind of sort of pathetic.
"How do you do it?" It was like chopsticks all over again. "And why the heck do I sink if I'm so light?"

He glanced down through the water at his slowly kicking feet, as if there might be a miracle solution involved. He might have said, It's so easy I don't even think about it, but it probably wouldn't be the right choice of words given the situation.
"The mystery of the hour," he murmured, referring to why she sank. "Well, I'll try, but I'm not really.... that great of a teacher." He frowned, adjusting his hold over her wrists. "Okay, try with just your feet first. You're just kicking. Moving the water away from you."

"You taught me how to use chopsticks." She pointed out and tried. Not that she didn't already know kicking was involved in swimming, or that moving her arms was important as well, she just couldn't do it. It was mostly due to the fear, she suspected, her limbs locked and she knew she should swim, should paddle, should kick but she'd just let herself sink instead.
With Armand here, it was a bit different, she could control the fear that she was going to drown (obviously, or he'd be cooked). "I know the theory." She reminded him with a bit of a grin. "I'm not that stupid. I just get....kind of scared."

His smile stretched, a bit sheepishly. "You can't blame me for wondering," he pointed out.
"I'm going to let go, alright? Once I do, use your arms. I'll grab you before you sink."

She wouldn't sink this time, she promised herself, if only to prove to him she wasn't a complete dimwit. When he let go, she swished her arms, working against the childish panic that threatened to freeze her. Her eyes were clenched shut in concentration but when she opened them, slowly, slowly, she was doing it!
Zizzy was actually swimming. Maybe it was the assurance that she'd be caught before she sank, or perhaps the desire to prove she wasn't quite that stupid, but she was doing it. A simple, graceless doggy paddle, but still.
She stopped, trying her hand at treading and finding it was a lot easier then it looked. "You are clearly some sort of genius." She complimented with a wide smile before sending a large splash his way.

He smirked, closing an eye against the water hitting his face. "Oh no," he said. "You're not putting this one on me."
He winked and dipped under the water, sinking out of view for a few seconds before surfacing again directly in front of her, cheeks full. He gave her one second of pause and then let out a stream of water from his mouth into her face.

Zizzy felt suddenly nervous as he dipped below the waves, trying to see what it was doing under the there, but then he was up and shooting water into her face.
"That's gross!" She cried and put two hands on his head, pushing down which caused her own body to rise out of the water a bit. Obviously, the logical reaction was to try and drown him.

He brought a dripping hand up, faking a yawn. "Oh." He glanced at her in surprise, putting a hand to his chest theatrically. "Were you trying to do something?"
He reached underwater and tickled her side.

She landed back in the water with a small sploosh and nearly yelped when he tickled her--it had taken her a moment to figure out it wasn't some kind of fish.
"Oh that's it." She declared, springing herself forward to tackle him. It was harder then he made it look, especially since her feet couldn't touch the bottom. He may be the better swimmer, and stronger, but that didn't mean he was going to win.

He couldn't help it, he laughed, wiggling easily out of her old, since both their skin was wet. He swam out of her reach, eyes still creased with his laugh, though his smile was soft and unmoving.
"This won't even be a competition. Back out gracefully, my love, and I promise not to dunk you."

She came after him, this time using a frog-like stroke that let her go a bit faster then the doggie paddle. It may have taken her decades, but she was catching on. She came up to him and nodded, "You're right. No competition at all."
And with that she slung an arm around his neck and swung around, latching onto his back and then leaning backwards, attempting to pull him under with her. Even if she wasn't that good a swimmer, Zizzy had tons of experience being under it and having to hold her breath.
