Name: Julien René de Sang
Age: Created in the early 1800s. He's got several centuries on him.
Gender: Male
Group: Nightmare
Occupation: Lead tenor at the Opera di Incubi and occasional concert pianist.
Appearance: Since he’s both a vampire and a figment of the imagination, Julien fortunately looks to be in his late twenties, not over two hundred. Unfortunately, his fashion sense got stuck somewhere around his conception, so he wears clothing from the early nineteenth century when not in costume or concert dress. Any appeal from his Mr. Darcy-esque outfits takes on an added quirkiness since Julien a. has no patience to fold anything, b. has an odd definition of ‘clean clothing’ and, c. tends to view his closet as the proper place to store sheet music, and the floor as the proper place to store his clothes. Julien generally also wears an overcoat and has absolutely no idea what will be in his pockets at any given time. He has a particularly charming smile (though it can be at times disconcerting with the added effects of fangs), nice hands, an expressive face, a lithe figure (he’s about six feet tall), light brown eyes, and longish dark hair he wears in a queue. Though not Adonis-like in looks, he’s handsome enough to suit his stage roles, and has the grace and energy of a kitten. He also has an earring in his left ear from that time he got bored and decided that piercing his ear would be a terrific idea. Take a look:
Personality: Julien is a spastic ball of French enthusiasm and musicality. Though fiercely nationalistic in all aspects (France and Nightmares forever!) he tends to get along with everyone he meets, and will become genuinely confused when they don’t see him as a friend. Julien is devoted to the people he loves, and chivalrous to the last with everyone else. He also has ADD so severe it’s enough to send someone into epileptic fits. Julien’s generous to the point of prodigality, somewhat childish, playful, flirtatious, cheerful, charming, good- natured, vivacious, passionate, romantic, kind- hearted, and dramatic. If he’s not the center of attention, he’s somewhere close to it. Since Julien almost never takes anything seriously (except music and possibly his girlfriend, October), finds most things funny, and likes his un- death too much to spoil it with unpleasantness, he’s almost never angry or upset. He’s been onstage almost all his life and often has difficulty distinguishing between reality and fiction and, despite over two-hundred years and a rebellion’s worth of life experience, remains as idealistic as the day he was created. Life ought to conform to art, in his humble opinion, though he has very severe opinions on What Is Art (i.e. next to nothing after 1950). Though he does believe in things deeply, he loves arguing and infuriating people just for the fun of it, and will often treat his beliefs very lightly in company. There’s always something slightly messy about him, unless he’s onstage. Then, everything is perfect.
He’s supremely musical, as well, and can sight-read just about anything written for piano or voice. Julien composes, too, with much more enthusiasm than accuracy. He is terrified of being alone and petrified by silence. Above all, he hates being bored. If there’s no piano, Julien will juggle. If there’s nothing to juggle, he’ll play hacky-sack. If he doesn’t have his hacky sack, he’ll write music. No pen and paper? He’ll sing. In a last ditch attempt, he’ll probably blow something up by accident. Julien, though a musical genius, is rather dim. He can speak French fluently and Italian well enough to get by, but his English is atrocious, and the less said about his German or his Spanish, the better. Thus, he always has a French accent and will throw French phrases into his conversations without thinking about it.
Powers: For all that he started out as his parents’ worst nightmare, Julien’s currently the nightmare of passion and life. To that end, he can be extremely convincing when he wants to be (which is why he turned out to be an excellent actor) and would be extraordinarily good at seduction and the like if he wasn't more of a five-year-old than anything else. He’s a vampire, so he can suck blood, lift heavy things when he’s got lots of blood in his system, charm people into a trance, and never die unless someone drives a pointy piece of wood through his heart, exposes him to sunlight, etc. A note about his voice: Julien is a tenor leggero. He has a wide range and register, and a very pure, warm, golden tone. He can also play the piano amazingly well, if that counts as a power.
Other Information: Julien has had an eventful life. He was once human, and a musical genius. His eighteenth-century stage parents pushed him hard, however, since he was always sick, and Julien died before he was thirty. This tormented his parents, who rather belatedly realized, oh, whoops, perhaps our son ought to have had a childhood before he keeled over onstage. They dreamt up the current incarnation of Julien, who, after their deaths, very happily found his niche as the nightmare of life and of passion in the newly Victorian minds of the era. When he arrived in the Isles of Morpheus, he joined the cast of the Opera di Incubi and never left. Later on, he spearheaded the efforts to overthrow King Jack on the grounds that a. Queen Pia was his best friend, b. Julien was bored, and c. Julien thinks that monarchies are inherently unjust. He teamed up with October and later on fell madly in love with her (though it took him ages to realize this and he never once noticed she’d been falling in love with him since they met). They’ve been dating since the unification of the realm and there isn’t anyone in any world that Julien cares about more. He’s also a lapsed Catholic (something about being a vampire makes the practice kinda painful). Julien's also devoted to his godson, Armand.
