It was raining. Of course it was raining; Murphy's Law, wasn't it? Still, he couldn't have asked for a better time to decide to move back to the city: everything was done on his present for Annie. Now, he just had to show it to her.
Before he had driven to their new home, he'd had Annie put a blindfold on. Now that they were here, he parked the car and just sat still. He loved to listen to the sound of the rain against the roof and there was no one he'd rather share it with than Annie.
"Well," he said quietly, taking Annie's hands in his own, "We're here." He didn't move to take her blindfold off quite yet. Instead, he put a hand on Annie's cheek, stroking her soft skin with his thumb. "Aniversario feliz, mi amor," he whispered, leaning over for a kiss.

Annie leaned into the kiss, steadying herself on her husbands forearms, and gave a throaty hum of pleasure. Blindfolds were the best, in more ways than one. She pulled back from the kiss with a wide, satisfied smile. She had no idea what to expect, but knowing Miguel, it would be breathtaking she was sure.

As much as he just wanted to wrap his arms around her and stay here all day, Miguel had brought his wife here for a reason. When they finally broke the kiss, he smiled again. "Wait here, love; I'll come open the door for you," he told her, planting a quick kiss on her hand.
He got out of the car and made his way around, slightly nervous now. There was really no reason why he should be; he was confident in the present he had built for Annie, but there was always a tiny, tiny particle of doubt, somewhere. He just wanted to make her happy, that was all.
Opening Annie's door, he helped her out of the Porsche, steadying her as she stood. "All right, mi amor, let's take that blindfold off." He reached up to start untying the knot and added, in a mischievous undertone, "For now, anyway."
Once the blindfold was completely off, Miguel gestured towards what he had built for Annie, smiling. "This is for you, Annie."

Annie's first thought was 'It's gorgeous! Are we renting?'. That was until she realized Miguel's signature was on practically every stone and beam of the beautiful two story mansion she was looking at. The building was a work of art. It was such a blend of cultures, with large Corinthian columns and Spanish-style moldings. Annie was speechless. She settled for reaching over, grabbing her husband, and pulling him into a searing 'thank you' kiss.
By the time they pulled away from each other, Annie had regathered her ability to speak.
"It's beautiful, darling! This," she leaned up for another peck. "Is the best," and another. "Anniversary gift ever!" She wrapped her arms around his neck and stared adoringly up at the house, her head resting on his chest. "Let's go in!" she insisted, raising her head up to look at her husband through her glasses.

To say that Miguel was pleased with Annie's reaction would be something of an understatement. Wrapping his arms around her, he contributed to the "searing" quality of the kiss. They were definitely going to have to ... christen the house later. Or perhaps earlier. As long as neither of their children were here at the time.
"I'm glad you are pleased," he said, even though that didn't begin to express what he felt. "I want to show you something," he said and led her to the heart-shaped door. "This room is for the two of us, and just the two of us," he told her quietly, waiting to see her reaction. This part, while it fit with the rest of the house, had been tailored to fit Annie's tastes exactly.

Annie loved it. It looked like... a place she hadn't seen in a very long time. It was a wonder Miguel had been able to know what she would like so exactly. It looked like home. Like Greece. Soft whites, creams, and blues dominated the room. She adored this more than any other in the entire house.
"Come here," she whispered, grabbing his lapel and pulling him into the room behind her. The door swung shut in their wake.

Miguel was only too pleased to follow Annie into their room. After all, what better way to get used to a new home than this? He grinned wickedly and did as he was told, locking the door for good measure.
