Name: Anemone “Annie” Basiliskos de Zorro (It keeps getting longer as she gets older…)
Age: A lady never reveals her age and Revlon keeps the grays from showing.
Gender: Female
Group: Nightmare and pretty proud of it.
Appearance: Tall, dark skinned, and serpentine, Annie de Zorro blends right into the crowd of nightmares cramming Dreamers Hell on any given day. Or she would, if not for the outrageous animal print ensemble. A silk leopard-print dress with a flattering plunging neckline and ruffle, accompanied by a pair of matching stiletto heels, an ornately carved wooden bracelet, dangling gold earrings, coal black sunglasses with lenses so dark it’s a marvel she can see where she’s going, and the ever-present purple crocodile-skin hand bag containing two extra pair of sunglasses-- just in case. She usually wears her wiry black hair in carefully constructed waves, although she has been known to go for beads and cornrows.
Annie has skin that would, no pun intended, give most dermatologists nightmares. The skin on her arms is smooth and soft, but the areas surrounding her wrists are dry, cracked, and…. scaly. A smattering of tiny bronze snake scales pepper her wrists and the back of her hands while a second trail of scales winds up along her spine and fan out across her shoulders. Squeezed between her eye brows in a diamond pattern, several miniature white scales gleam. A smile reveals a rather wicked row of fangs and a bright red forked tongue. Manicured nails are painted to match the day’s outfit.
Personality: Annie is authoritative and demanding in all walks of life. She hard to impress, but if you can make a good impression, she’s well connected enough to see that your career progress exponentially. As a mother, she has high expectations of her children, but can also be gentle and loving when needed. Her children are her precious ones. Of all nightmares in the world, she’s most likely to indulge her two daughters. Annie is practical and doesn’t believe in recklessness despite her accumulated wealth.
While a strict task mistress and penny-pincher, Annie loves dancing and shopping and other typical pursuits. She tends to gab and has a love for gossip that falls second only to Opera. An ex-singer herself, having joined the cast of the Opera di Incubi several hundred years ago, Annie advanced into the field of Artistic Directing before her retirement. She developed gray hairs shortly after accepting the position. To Annie, the stage is everything and she still visits the Opera frequently.
Powers: Annie’s worst fear is a mirror. Or a reflecting pool, or any surface that would allow her to see her own unshaded eyes. No one really knows what color Annie’s iris’ are, or even is there is color behind the dark lenses. Those souls unfortunate enough to have made eye contact are spending the rest of their existence as statues in somebody’s rose garden. Aside from a lethal gaze, her pearly set of fangs create and additional danger. While the puncture wounds alone may be sufficient to kill, the added influence of venom seals victim’s fates. As if fangs and deadly eyes weren’t creepy enough, Annie has the uncanny ability to communicate with snakes. Not talk to them, by any means (as if snakes could talk!), but send impressions and manipulate instincts. She actually keeps a pet snake, named Dolly; a puff adder. When emotionally distressed or panicked, she tends to slur her “s”s.
Other Information: Annie is old; probably middle aged for a nightmare. Her black hair has begun to show gray at the roots and her sense of smell isn’t quite what it used to be. A long, long time ago she used to sing at the Opera di Incubi, and then went on to conduct for a few seasons before her eventual promotion to Artistic Director and subsequent retirement. Age seems to have little effect on her attitude, as she conducts herself in a manner befitting a young Nightmaress in her early hundreds. Her maturity is obvious, but she can also be spotted modeling the latest slinky red dress in Dreamers Hell.
