Bela was tempted to argue with Mercedes about the boots, but she shrugged and let it go, for once. "So, why are we here again?" she asked, glancing around L.O.S. headquarters. It was the first time she had been in it, from this side, anyway, and she wasn't sure if she liked it or not.
"If I get to be a bad enough girl, is this where I'll come for trial?" she asked, half-joking. She doubted it would come to that, what with her family's position in the empire as well as Mercedes' in the L.O.S. But it wouldn't hurt to make sure.

"For backup... and I need to let the chief know," Mercedes explained, dragging her sister along behind her. "Yes, Bela. If you ever make it here they drop you down a deep, dark hole and you never get out. So, be careful," Mercedes warned. She enjoyed taunting her sister in the little ways.
She went right up to the main building and knocked. There were never very many people here so maybe the big boss or the commander would answer.

Vince usually wandered in and out of headquarters throughout the day, heeding no schedule but his own. It was only by fortune that anyone found him when they were looking for him.
Neck deep in the analyses of the old recruits hoping to nab a position somewhere, he glanced up at the knock. He was too tired to be properly irritated, and so, didn't sound quite his evil self when he said, "Come in."

Mercedes hesitated at the change in voice. He sounded civil. Weird. She chalked it up to the stress of new recruits and went on in.
"Chief, do you have a moment?" she asked for formality sake. He wouldn't have asked her in if he didn't have time for her. "I'm requesting permission to go after a terrorist group known as DEN. I believe they are an immediate threat to all Nightmares. I would also like to request backup," she said, making eye contact and holding it. She really wanted his go-ahead on this.

Bela followed Mercedes; she didn't have anything better to do, after all. It was better to be with her sister than to just stand around and have people assume things. Besides, one look at the sisters and you could tell that Bela and Mercedes were related, and probably that they were sisters, too; it wasn't difficult.
She stood in the doorway, in all her sexy, ready-to-fight glory, waiting for her sister. Theoretically, Bela understood the need for backup, but she just wanted to get this over with. The more time they spent here, the more chance they had of getting away. And if they hurt her family, there was no telling what she would do. She would not be responsible for the consequences.

Vince narrowed his eyes as the two sisters entered his office. Mercedes he could tolerate, the other one, looking like GI Jane on a fashion runway, not so much. It always baffled him how two people could be so closely related, both by friendship and blood, and be so different. It was like Alexander and Armand. How could such a mature, intelligent kid like Armand be related to an obnoxious little punk like Alexander?
He said nothing, listening to Mercedes request. His eyes flashed at the mention of DEN, and he stopped tapping his finger on the edge of his desk, going still. "Permission granted, Detective. I've dealt personally with DEN, and they're not as big as threat as you think. However, you can use any resources available to you, with as much back up as you need."

"I'm glad to hear that," she said, her own eyes glittering and dangerous. She liked hearing she could squash this threat without too much trouble. "And I'll take anyone you can spare. As much as I hate involving civilians, my sister insists in coming. I don't know how much of an asset she'll be, but she shouldn't be a liability," Mercedes said, glancing at Bela. The words might have sounded harsh, but the fact that Mercedes thought Bela could hold her own against an opponent Mercedes needed back up for spoke to her belief in her little sister's abilities. Mercedes braced herself to get chewed over her sister. Vince probably wouldn't like that she was tagging along.

Bela narrowed her eyes at her sister, seething. "Damn right I won't be a liability," she hissed. "I may not be as trained as you are, but I know how to fight," she told her sister, a bit indignant. Holding her head high, she crossed her arms defiantly. If Vince was going to verbally abuse her sister over Bela's presence, then the least Bela could do was help defend Mercedes.
"Like she said, it was my idea," she said, comment directed at no one in particular. If Vince chose to pay attention to her, that was all the better. If not, well, Bela could keep talking even if no one was listening.

He sneered a little. Clearly he did not approve of civilian participation. However, Mercedes had earned herself enough credit that he wouldn't question her judgement. On a more important case, perhaps, but for this, she could allow what she wanted.
"Fine. Update me with status reports." With a final cold look, he said, "Now get out of my office."

"Yes, sir" Mercedes said, snapping a salute. Taking the dismissal for the 'get out asap' that it was, she grabbed her sister's arm and marched out the door. Once they had gotten out of hearing range of the office, she turned to Bela with a almost fanatic grin on her face. "Now the real fun starts."
