It had only been two days and Bela was already restless. In fact, she didn't even notice that the outfit she was wearing had been in style last year. Had she known, she never would have worn it.
Pacing up and down in the marble entryway just below the stairs, Bela paused occasionally to just stare at the front door longingly. She wanted to go out.

Annie sauntered down the stairs, leopard print handbag at her side, ready to go out for some quality shop-time when she was arrested by the sight of her daughter standing in the middle of the foyer.
"Darling, those clothes are a bit dated, you know. Mommy's going shopping," she suggested, well aware that she was the only person who ever referred to herself as 'mommy'. "Why don't you come along?"

A bit dated...? Bela stared at her mother for a moment, not fully comprehending what Annie had just said. Had she just accused her daughter of wearing clothes that were out of fashion?! And then she looked at what she was wearing and just stared for a moment. They were out of fashion! Oh no!
Then Annie's offer register and Bela practically leapt at the chance to get out of the house. "That ... would be wonderful," she gushed, grabbing a pair of shoes. "Let's go," she said, making sure that she had her purse (matching, of course. Even when one's clothes are out of date, one must match).

Annie stared suspiciously at her daughter.
While Bella had always been the more fashionable of her little chickies and had never had trouble coaxing her into a shopping excursion, Annie had expected some moreosness on her youngests part. The girl was, after all, supposed to be 'doing time'. That Bella seemed so exuberant about the outing immediately put Annie at odds with herself. Punish Bella, or address a clear fashion emergency.
She didn't deliberate for long.
"Well then! Grab your jacket, darling. The black one. Red's a bit out of season," Annie said with a kind, for-your-own-good expression. She shifted her purse higher up on her shoulder and glided toward the door. She simply loved shopping days.

Bela certainly didn't have to be told twice. Grabbing her black jacket, she followed her mother to the door. Now that she thought about it, it was really nice to see her mother. It had been a while since the two of them had been shopping and (though she didn't usually admit it) they had very similar tastes. When she had been younger and not as rebellious, Bela had occasionally borrowed some of Annie's clothes and vice versa. And, of course, they always looked fabulous.
"I haven't been shopping in a while; what's new?" she asked, snagging a fashion magazine from the table in the hall.

"They've just come out with the winter line. You know, at our shop." Bela, of course, would know the one her mother meant. They had been there many a time and christened it 'their' shop.
"I actually saw an outfit I thought would be just darling on you, but I've put on so much weight this year, I just couldn't be sure it would fit you," Annie said with a note of dejection. "You'll have to try it on."
As they moved onto the front lawn, making their way towards Annie's black sedan, a Christmas gift from Miguel, Annie gabbed about the items she'd liked, loved, and wouldn't wish upon her worst enemy.
"Hop in, sweetie. Shops close early today, remember?" She pulled open the drivers door and slid into her seat. Turning on the engine and taking a second to appreciate it's quiet hum, Annie backed out of the driveway and drove off for downtown Chimera.

"The winter line? Already?" she said, a bit surprised. It had been a while, apparently, since she had last been shopping, especially to their special shop. Almost all of the employees knew the two women by name, which was kind of refreshing and personal.
She wasn't sure what her mother meant by that comment, so she didn't really say anything in response. Either way, her mother had good taste, so Bela would definitely be trying on the outfit that Annie was talking about.
"Oh, that's right," she grumbled, sliding into the front seat. "They really should keep things open a bit later for regulars." After all, whenever they were there, Annie and Bela invariably spent quite a bit of money. Oh, gods, this shopping trip was definitely needed; she hadn't been shopping in ages.
