Annie'd had her suspicions when she started puking into the prop vase backstage, but she'd been able to write it up on some bad steak tar-tar she'd eaten. That was until Pia said those fateful words to her.
"Just wait until you get fat."
It had dawned on her then, like a ray of crisp morning sunshine cresting over a luch horizon. She was pregnant. She put October in charge and ruched all the way back home, not even realizing her husband might not be home. She had to share the news. Pronto.

Miguel had decided to work at home today, sketching. He had been hired for several small projects, which shouldn't be too hard. But, Miguel being Miguel, he had decided to embellish the original designs, at least to see how it looked.
Glancing at what he'd just drawn, he raised an eyebrow, crumpled the piece of paper, and threw it into the trash can by the edge of his desk. Well THAT had been crap. He shrugged and started to work on a newer, better design when Annie came in.
He smiled at his wife and went over to greet her with a kiss. "Hola, Annie," he said, smiling. "You're home early today," he commented, not really asking a question but clearly curious. He just hoped that nothing was wrong.

Annie rushed her husband throwing her arms around him after he kissed her.
"Miguel, dearest! My Miguel!" This seemed to be all she was capable of uttering for several moments. She seemed to be so overwhelmed by her news she couldn't even speak it. "Ooh! Miguel! We're going to have a baby!" she cried at last. Her arms tightened around his neck. "We're pregnant!"

Well, this was quite the greeting! Granted, the couple was usually happy to see each other when they both returned from work, but Annie was clearly excited about something!
And then she dropped the bombshell. Miguel just stared at her for a moment, jaw dropped. Then her words hit him, like a sledgehammer to the head, but a good one. He let out a whoop of excitement, wrapped his arms around Annie, picked her up, and twirled her around (carefully). "We're pregnant!" he yelled, dancing around. "This calls for a celebration!" And without further ado, he made his way over to the phone, still holding Annie's hand. He called their favorite restaurant and made reservations for dinner.
"We need to go shopping, mi amor," he said excitedly. They needed to stock up on healthy foods, start baby shopping, among other things. "And only the best for my Annie and our little one," he grinned, already making mental plans for some additions to the baby's room.

Annie grinned broadly. Miguel made it rather difficult to forget why she loved him, but in case she was ever in need of a reminder all he had to do was say the magic 's' word. What could be better in the world than a man who took you shopping?
This was going to be marvelous. She'd have dinner with Miguel, maybe some friends, a glass of champagne, and, Oh!
Annie paused, her hands still firmly on Miguel's shoulders from when he'd spun her.
She couldn't have champagne. She couldn't be around the cast members who smoked like chimneys. She was going to get fat. Not that that was so much of a problem. Two words: Maternity Clothes.
Then the big one hit her. She was going to have to TAKE OFF WORK. She had only barely taken off for her honeymoon, on Miguel's insistence. And she hadn't had a vacation in over 200 years! Not since she had to take that 'mental health holiday' courtesy of Julien's incessant antics.
Annie, against all reason, felt like she might cry.
She pulled in a deep breath. She was usually better at controlling her emotions. Annie focused on the fact that she had just had her deepest wish granted. She was pregnant. She was going to have a beautiful baby boy. Or girl. She felt better almost instantly. The entire mood swing had probably taken less than a second.
"You're going to be the best Daddy," she beamed up at her husband affectionately.

Oh, yes, he would take her shopping. While it wasn't his favorite pastime, Annie certainly enjoyed it, so shopping made him happy, too. Besides, this way he could help her pick out ... outfits. And she certainly appreciated the critique.
"Sorry, mi amor, but no champagne." He wouldn't have any while Annie was pregnant, either. It was only fair, really. Smiling at his wife, he hugged her close again, unbearably happy. "And you're going to be a wonderful mother, Annie," he told her, firmly believing this fact.
Grabbing Annie's jacket, he held it out for her. Now was the perfect time for Miguel to positively pamper Annie for the rest of her pregnancy. "You're positively glowing," he commented, knowing that he was beaming himself. Well, this was certainly wonderful news!

Annie slipped into her coat, offering a smile as thanks.
Flatterer, she thought privately. Thing was, she hadn't really felt like she was glowing until her said something. Now she felt like the warm center of the earth.
"I know where I'm starting. There's this fabulous baby boutique that's been calling out for me ever since I laid eyes on it," she declared, linking her arm through her husbands.
This was going to be so much fun!

Miguel returned the smile, more than happy to be of assistance. In fact, he would probably be doing a lot of things for Annie in the coming months, if she would let him. He didn't want her to think that he considered her weak; he just wanted to be helpful.
"Off we go, then!" he exclaimed, making sure that he had money. They never really had a shortage; thanks to their jobs and his excellent gambles, the de Zorro family would never want for money. And he would make sure of that.

Annie beamed, pushing out through the door, getting into the car as Miguel held the door and watching out the window as her husband sped toward central Chimera. She rested a hand over her stomach.
Pregnant.
This was her long-time dream come true. She'd have the most beautiful child in the world. She'd be a mom. She could imagine first steps, first words, first scares... She smiled contentedly at her thin reflection in the car window.
She was so lost in thought, she didn't realize they were there until Miguel was pulling the door open for her. She blinked in surprise, a reaction that was hidden behind her thick shades, and stepped out.
Chimera Marketplace was remarkably dull. It was, however, a weekday in the afternoon. All working Nightmares were off... working. What Annie would have been doing if it weren't for her miraculous epiphany.
"There it is!" she cooed, grabbing Miguel's arm and leading him toward her much-longed-for baby boutique. Inside was a dumpy witch smiling amiably at them.
"We have to start with a crib. No, it's to early for a crib... Books then," she mused. She wasn't overly fond of reading, but she'd do it for the sake of her unborn darling.

As usual, Miguel played the gentleman, holding doors and helping Annie in and out of the car, etc. He loved to do these little things; it made him feel more like the don he could have been, if not in Morpheus.
He followed Annie, terribly excited about this whole situation. Even the shopping was going to be exciting! Miguel smiled back at the boutique-witch, in an amazingly good mood (gee, I wonder why?).
"We will buy whatever you would like to buy, mi amor," he declared with a flourish. No matter how expensive it was, really, they could afford it. And he would definitely be buying a book on how to take care of the mother during her pregnancy; he would have only the best for his wonderful wife.

Annie leaned over and gave him a peck on the cheek. The witch at the counter gave them a knowing smile.
They spent the better part of thirty minutes combing the store, Annie cooing over all the baby paraphenalia. She was clearly on cloud nine. She chatted happily with her husband about adding a nursery, as they moved to a bookstore, looking for additional reading material.
"We'll need to start looking for a midwife as well," she was saying as they sat at a cafe, taking a break from shopping. Annie had Yummy! Yummy! Eating Right for Expecting Mommy's open in her lap. "I trust Good Hope, but I'd like to have someone I know there to help with the delivery."

While Annie cooed, Miguel just beamed. He was going to be a father! AND he was going to get to do some additions to the house (not that it needed it, but he was going to add, anyway)! Also, each baby they had (if they had more than this one, which would be wonderful) was going to have his or her own room. Later, of course, that room would be remodeled to fit that child's tastes. Is Miguel going to spoil their children? Of COURSE not! All right, he probably is, but it won't be on purpose.
"That is certainly possible, love," Miguel murmured. "Where can we start looking?" As usual, he wanted his wife to be as happy as she possibly could be.

"I don't know," Annie said in genuine surprise. She hadn't considered it yet. She snapped a piece off her garlic bread and chewed as she thought. "Good Hope might have recommendations, maybe?" she said slowly.

Miguel nodded with a smile. "Then that is the logical place to begin looking," he said, reaching across the table to give Annie's hand a gentle squeeze. His smile (which had been happy to begin with) turned loving as he met Annie's eyes through her sunglasses. While that might have bothered a majority of other people, Miguel didn't mind at all. He loved being perhaps the only one to be able to tell where Annie was looking pretty much all the time. And he certainly didn't mind letting Annie blindfold him when they were ... exercising; it was actually a lot of fun.
Now his mind was running along that train of thought. It wouldn't mater for a while, but eventually, ... that was going to be difficult. But, they'd worry about that when it happened. For now, they were talking about midwives, yes? Yes.
"We can go over and talk to the hospital after we've finished lunch, if you like," he smiled, munching on his own food. Ahhh, this was a perfect day.
