Oh right, Marie. He nodded, but it was kind of clear he was just appeasing her, he didn't really believe sweet corresponding on anything more than a superficial level with Marie. He was still kind of sore about the whole restaurant scene even if it had worked out in the end. He could literally feel himself melting; the sun was warm, sure, but her presence was moreso and it was easier then ever to wrap an arm possessively around her waist and tug her close to him. He knew that when she left him alone, the next time he saw her it would be like starting from scratch, but that didn't matter.
The park was dotted with Vendors selling the venerated Peep Candy, never-wilt Balloons, street-side jewelery that had it's charm and, of course, gorgeous bouquets. Which had the effect of reminding him of the first time he'd met Samantha. He left her to go to the obese dream with the flower stand and came back moments later with three lilies.
"Your favorite, right?" He smiled and proffered them to her, proud of himself for remembering even though their first meeting had been an unmitigated disaster. As had a few others of theirs, but it just went to show you, you never could tell. But even as they had this completely sweet moment he could see how every single guy that went by was momentarily caught up by her. He shuffled his feet uncomfortably and sighed.

Samantha beamed. "Yes," she said softly. She took the lilies, taking one and arranging it in her hair behind her ear.
His forlorn sigh did not go unnoticed and she looked up from where she had her nose deep in the scent of the lilies, frowning at him.
"What's the matter?"

He shook his head slightly at her, what was he going to say? 'I'm worried that you're not going to be faithful because you grab the attention of so many men? I'm worried you don't even want to be faithful, what if I'm just some kind of fling? For kicks?' Right. He felt emasculated enough just thinking it.
"I haven't seen head or tail of Gavin in a while, I'm starting to worry." He supplied instead, taking her hand and walking down the pathway again. "You know, he's my only real good friend and we haven't patched things up since..." He trailed off, looked down at her at blushed a little, "...you."

"Ah." Her own cheeks colored and she glanced away. "I'm...." She trailed off. She didn't want to say she was sorry. She was-- but moreso for the situation. Truthfully, the entire thing confused her more than anything.
"I haven't seen him lately either."
She unconsciously tightened her grip on his hand.

David sighed, "I know it was never serious between you two, and Gavin's a good guy, but what I did was kind of a jerkface move. Not that I regret....with you...but, I could have talked to him before hand about things..."
He didn't want her to get the impression that Gavin was somewhere pining over her and growing in venom at David's betrayal because he knew the Knight and he wasn't at all like that. "I think he's fine with us, just not the way I went about it----HEY LOOK!" David's attention was flung from serious things and latched unto the site in the field that had just became visible. To combat the looming darkness of Chimera, the Dreamlanders had taken hundreds of colorful kites to the sky.
"LET'S GET ONE AND FLY IT, HAVE YOU EVER FLOWN ONE BEFORE?" He asked excitedly, tugging her down the hill towards the crowd of runners, looking a little like an eleven year old boy.

Her eyes widened. "N-No..." she managed, laughing. She hastily gathered her skirts so she wouldn't trip on them as he tugged her down the hill.
They hailed one of the kite vendors and a blue one with a yellow tail was placed in their hands. "I don't know how," she admitted, but she was excited to try. David's enthusiasm was catching.

'Okay, okay, take the spool in your hand and I'm going to run, and you just feed me the line but be careful cause it can cut and it kind of hurts and then once it's in the air you steer." He was beaming and bouncing just a little bit, he took the kite on either side and held it over his head, tugging a bit to indicate she needed to give him some slack.
"Ready, Freddy?"

She held the spool in nervous hands, nodding to indicate her assent. The wooden ends of the spool whizzed against her palms as the string fed out. A rush of wind blew the ends of her skirts, and caught the kite just as David, in perfect timing, launched it into the air.
She shrieked in delight as it took flight, and then unable to believe her unseemly outburst, blushed in embarrasment. She stopped the string before the kite could get to high, reaching out with her hand to steady the string, which, just as David had warned her, cut into the soft flesh of her finger. She yipped in pain and jerked her hand back, affronted. The string had sliced through her glove and a dot of red blood now stained the white cotton.

Once the kite was up and soaring, David returned to Samantha, placing himself behind her, using his body as a brace for hers to guide her. "Here, let me handle the strings." He said, noticing the dot of blood with a small frown. His hands were rougher and didn't cut as easily as he took covered her hands with his, guiding them on the spool and giving more slack when needed to save her soft flesh.
It was an intimate embrace to be in, in public, but half a dozen other couples were doing just the same thing. His head hovered next to hers and soon enough he had picked up her breathing rhythm and fell in sync.
"Now, we win." He said and jerked down, making the kite swoop and tangle with another, cutting it off at the base. The rival kite began a graceful dive to the ground and several children ran screaming, racing, to be the first to get it.

Samantha sighed in content, leaning in a little to David's chest. She didn't dare tangle with the string again, but she kept her hands rested lightly on his, her fingers moving over his knuckles.
"That was amazing!" she gasped as David took out one of the competing kites. "You did all that from down here, with just your fingers." She giggled, for no apparent reason at all. This beat shopping and gossiping any day.

"I've done this before." He said in a distracted tone. Almost distracted enough to not notice Samantha leaning into him---almost. He wanted to reciprocate but the kite kept both his hands busy, so when he was sure he was safe, he ducked down to kiss her neck quickly, teasingly, before refocusing on the festival.
Another kite edged closer to them, shaped like a fairy or something of the sort and he yanked back, tilted the spool to the side and then gave it slack so that their kite pulled behind the other, dipped to it's left and then came up by it's side. He yanked again and cut yet another.
"Look over there at the prize." He said with a slight jerk of his head. At the judges stand there was a basket, a beautiful, fully equipped and prepared picnic. "It's ours."

His kiss lingered on the skin of her neck long after the literal contact was gone. She twisted slightly, and she lifted a brow at the sight of the picnic.
"Indeed," she said with a smirk, sharing his competitive confidence. She squinted up at their kite. It was one of only a few left in the sky. She dropped her gaze to observe the couples and kite owners with active spools still in their hands. "Poor things. Hoping to have a picnic afterward. I guess they didn't know you were coming, David."

He shook his head and grinned but didn't make a noise, to lose now would be embarrassing after the show of confidence. But he needn't have worried. His prodigious kite flying skills sent all other kites asunder until their plain blue and yellow, last-minute kite was the only one soaring the skies. It almost looked like it was marching, like it knew it had won.
David began to reel it in, when it was too close to catch the wind it fell and it was easier and quicker to bring it too him. He pulled away from Samantha as people came up to congratulate them and such. The judges began with sixth prize so he had a moment yet. Caught up in the glory of his win, he took Samantha by the waist, pulled her flush against him and kissed her vigorously.

Samantha picked up the kite, brushing the dirt and grass off with a tender pat of congratulations to it's wood frame. She smiled graciously at the well-wishers, and finally turned away only to have David kiss her.
She didn't protest aside from a tiny gasp that slipped from the utter swiftness of the kiss. She arched up on her toes to better accomodate him, dropping their winning kite to slip her hands around the back of his neck.

He pulled back after a moment, tucking her hair behind her ear and kissing her quickly on the forehead before approaching the judge's table, her in tow, since they'd gotten to second, now first. He grinned as he was burdened with the abundant basket and turned to Samantha as the 'closing ceremony' took place and prizes were handed to the children who'd fetched the fallen kites.
"Find us a place to set this down, I can barely see where I'm going."
