Name: Henriette Guillotine, aka “Madame Guillotine”
Age: None of your business (but was created in 1792)
Group: Nightmare with extreme pro-Nightmare and anti-monarchy leanings
Occupation: Concertmistress at the Opera di Incubi
Appearance: Henriette has blue eyes that border on a steel gray and waves of auburn hair she keeps rather messily pinned up, in order to better flatter her rather angular face. However, like Thomas Hardy’s Eustacia Vye, her nerves seem to extend into her hair and if you brush or stroke it, Henriette calms instantly and her temper vanishes. She has an unforgiving sort of beauty, a half- dangerous, entirely seductive allure that relies as much on Henriette’s slight accent and spurts of temper as it did on her high cheekbones and her figure (which is on the thinner side of statuesque at a 5’7 or thereabouts). Her hands are easily her best feature, being thin and elegant, with the long, slender fingers that mark a good string-player. Like most violinists, she always has a mark on her neck from where she holds her violin, and that, combined with her past history, is enough to get her to always wear scarves or chokers when she isn’t playing. Henriette veers to the classier side of fashion and owns an impressive array of black dresses for concert performances and dates. There is always something very stylized and precise about her. She is also inordinately fond of earrings, and always carries a pair of studs in her violin case so she doesn't damage the violin with her preferred chandeliers.
Personality: Like her namesake, she is sharp, impetuous, and unforgiving. She races along very quickly to conclusions and once she reaches them, will never change them, as they become the basis for most of the rest of her decisions. Henriette is filled with a sort of restless intensity. She gets angry easily but is rarely resentful, as she tends to explode over the problem and then force a solution. Henriette characterizes herself as a musician, despite her past, and is violently attached to her violin, whom she named Sanson. She tends to go around in a low-level state of irritation since Henriette does not suffer fools kindly, nor does she enjoy the company of anyone who bores her and does not have anything to offer her in return. To that end, Henriette can be rather unscrupulous and is more or less amoral. She enjoys cooking and blowing things up in equal measure and is justifiably proud of her musicianship. Though French, she speaks English fluently, and, unlike Julien, without much of an accent at all. Henriette has a very definite anti-authoritarianism streak, for all that she rules the orchestra with an iron fist, and rather enjoys riots as long as they aren’t directed at her. She is also very precise and meticulous and dislikes anything that isn’t clear-cut and well-defined. Henriette also happens to be a Simone de Beauvoir-type feministjust to make her clash more with Johnny.
Powers: Though she started out as the fear of the guillotine, she’s now the more generalized fear of punishment, particularly the kinds that involve blades, pain and/or death. Her powers match accordingly, as she is extremely skilled with anything that has a blade (be it a sword, a meat cleaver (she’s an excellent cook), or scissors (though she’s too impatient for most craft products or any kind of hair-cut)). She’s also an excellent violinist, despite the fact that she got the spot by sleeping with a theatre patron who later accidentally brutally cut his head off while combing his hair. Henriette also has an amateur interest in blowing things up, which she finds to be extremely cathardic.
Other Information: Henriette has a rather tumultuous history with Johnny (they were dating, she dumped him really viciously in order to get ahead career-wise, he was heart-broken, she decided on a spider-like course of sleeping and killing her way to the top, she ended up sleeping with him during the Rebellion, he hated her, she hated him, they always ended up in bed together, etc.), and their relationship hasn’t changed much. She loved Johnny passionately most of the time, but simply cannot resist the urge to pick fights and break up with him every month or so. They always end up getting back together.
Similarly, she's also been involved in pretty much every rebellion in the Isles, because mob justice is her favorite kind of justice. Any excuse to blow things up, or decapitate a person who deserves it, is peachy keen with her. Considering that Johnny is friends with the king, this causes no little tension between them.
Henriette also smokes. A lot. She likes to say it keeps her calm, but considering the volatile nature of her temper, it's truly terrifying to think of what she'd be like if she didn't smoke.
