Nellie was hardly a master at hiding her expressions to begin with, but hiding them from him had become a near impossibility. He could read her like a book. And so his face fell in time with her faux sunny smile. "Ah, Nell..." He began, and then glanced at Mikhail.
He smirked. "I could heat it up again, if you want." His attention shifted to Marie and he gave her a discreet shake of his head. "Relax," he told her, soft enough Nellie wouldn't hear. "I don't think she even knows what a hickey is."
He pulled back and raised his voice back to the 'for-all-ears' volume. "Well, then. Mi casa is your casa." He glanced at all the candy, a bit sadly. "Thanks," he told Marie uncertainly. "This was really nice of you..." And it was, hence the suspicion.

Mikhail arched an eyebrow briefly at Marie. Just how far was she into this little goody-goody act? Too far, for his tastes. Much too far. It was almost as if she was actually trying to-
Oh, dear God, she was! She was actually trying to make Nellie feel better! Ugh! Why had she bothered to drag him along, then? He was hardly a good accessory for stroking peasant egos. He reached moodily for a piece of chocolate, unwrapping it with a bit of annoyance. Well, this was an utter mess.
"Any time." He replied to Alexander, half-huffily, "Perhaps when the ladies are busy with their hair-braiding parties, hm?"

Nellie rather stiffly allowed herself to be hugged. She wasn’t quite sure how to handle this. She’d met Marie twice; the first time, Marie was less than sweet. This time, she was nearly frighteningly kind. Her eyes darted to Alexander, like she was asking how she should respond. “Uh, okay, that’ll be fun..? And…fank you, Marie.”
She wanted to hear more about the farm, but she had come so close to crying before, and she really disliked crying. Especially in front of other people. Maybe if she took up Marie’s offer and did go have a sleepover (which, she was frankly sort of afraid of), she would ask for more information then.

Marie backed off a few steps, she was frightening herself, to be honest. "Uh, well. I waz a bitch to Nellie when we first met. I felt bad about zat. I know what eets like to miss 'ome." She smiled at Nellie, and ignored Mikhail's ominous grumbling. She'd take him to do something nasty later to make up for this.
"But I've upset you even more. I am sorry."

Alexander raised an eyebrow, still looking at Marie as if another disposable had grown over her shoulder. She felt bad and she'd done all this just to make it up to Nellie? ....okay.
"Shouldn't you still be in bed?" he asked finally, deciding the workings of the female mind, slumber parties included, weren't worth delving into.

Mikhail glanced briefly towards Alexander, almost gratefully. Yes, dear God, please, let us get out of here! He didn't think he could stand another minute of watching Marie act soppy and gracious towards some little gutter-sounding half-piglet. Plus, his back was getting sore from sitting in this awful little uncomfortable chair.
Returning his gaze towards Marie almost pleadingly, he cocked his head just slightly, "Mmm, I suppose he's right, darling." He tried hopefully.

Nellie blinked at Marie. For the first time, she noticed that Marie was a lot more colorful than the last time she’d seen her—you know, all black and blue. “Oh! Yer urt!” Nellie brushed her fingers very nicely across a bruise on Marie’s arm, “Wot ‘appened?”

"Yes, I should be. I guess. But eets so boring being in bed all day when only two people 'ave come to visit you so far." She shot a small pointed look at Alexander.
"Eet's nozing, really." She assured Nellie. The bruises were faded, hardly even tender anymore. "And I got thrown from a 'orse." She answered smoothly. No need for Nellie to know she'd been motorcycle racing with Alexander.

Alexander raised his hands in surrender. "You're welcome to stay," he said, "I just don't want to have to cart you on an emergency hospital run again."
He rolled his eyes as Marie announced equine as the culprit of her injuries. She didn't need to dance around Nellie as if she were fragile. But whatever. If she wanted to keep it a secret, fine.

Nellie gave Alexander a flat look, “Woz you s’posed to go an’ check on ‘er an’ you didunt?” The disappointment was evident. Maybe Nellie would go over there and visit.

Marie smiled, but figured her friend wouldn't bear too much more kindness, that she really should be getting back to bed, and that she'd come to do what she hadn't realized she'd been planning. Nellie's comment had her laughing, and then remembering why it was a horrible idea to be amused. She groaned and grit her teeth for a moment, before she was up and smiling again. Even if it was mostly fake. There was that surge of envy again.
"I should probably get 'ome. Doctairs ordairs and such." She held out her arm for Mikhail to help her to the door. The little laugh had worsened the pain.

Mikhail rose immediately, taking Marie's arm carefully. Oh, God, finally. He didn't think he could bear this sort of lovey-dovey muck much longer. ...Especially in a crypt. Really, that was the part that put him off his stomach.
"Well, good night, darlings." He purred easily, "Do come chat sometime, hm? It's been lovely."

Alexander frowned defensively. "I was going to," he complained, and then glanced back to Marie. Something in her expression suggested pain, so it was probably good they were leaving.
"Come again," he muttered, still slightly bewildered by the whole episode. When the door had shut behind them on, he looked at Nellie and said, "Well that was weird."

“Very weird,” Nellie agreed, picking through the bunch of flowers to find some appropriate red ones for her hair, before placing the rest in a vase. “Know wot they told me? They told me Pete woz married t’ me cousin, an’ she’s esspecting.”
Nellie suddenly froze, dropping the flower that was in her hand onto the counter. “If I didunt come ‘ere wiff you, I’d ‘ave been pregnant by now, I would ‘ave.” She was clearly appalled, and looked to Alexander to make sure he shared the same sentiments, “Can you even imagine?!”

He didn't have to fake the displeased expression, but the idea of her being pregnant wasn't nearly so horrific as her being pregnant with somebody else's baby.
"Huh. I guess Peter didn't waste much time, did he..." He shuffled his feet for a few awkward moments before closing the distance between them and taking her face in his hands; he wanted to see her clearly, and not give her time to look away and hide.
"Do you want to go home, Nellie?"
