"Nooo," Alexander said with a slow shake of his head. "It's because Miss Killer always agrees with me. She and I are of one mind."

Nellie made a half-snort half-choking sound, her blonde eyebrow quirking in clear disbelief. “Please. Pray, wot makes you fink that, hm? Killer is a pretty girl, isn’t she, Killer, lovey?”
She sat down on the kitchen table and perused the bag of candy that Marie brought over, “ But ya know if you’re insinuatin’ that you ‘ave the mind of a pretty girl, then I’m nt arguing with ya.”

"That's not what I'm insuating at all," he said with overly exaggerated exasperation. "I'm saying pretty girls like the way I think." He leaned over on the table, a wicked grin creeping over his face. He plucked the piece of candy out of her hand and stuck it in his mouth, joining her at the table, kicking his feet up.

Rude! But so cute. Nellie couldn’t fight the little smile she caught from Alexander so she did the next best thing: cover her mouth with her hand so he couldn’t see the smile. “I guess yer roight. But that’s cause pretty girls is too busy being pretty to ‘ave any sense at all, they is. Otherwise they’d maybe realize that the way ya think inn’t so great,” She said from behind her hand, her voice not as muffled as her amusement was obvious.

For a moment, he didn't say anything, because watching her, with her hand over her mouth like doing so would really hide the fact that she laughing, her eyes dancing with amusement, he felt a rush of... something that was both warm and wonderful and filled every part of him.
Uh-oh.
Sheep Girl... I think I might love you.
His grin was a little strained. "How do you think I trapped you here in this crypt? You're all looks, no sense, darlin'."

She fluttered her eyelashes and tilted her head toward her shoulder in what was apparently supposed to be a ‘pretty girl’ pose. “I s’pose yer right. ‘S me only shortcomin’, bein’ way too pretty for me own good. Sad, inn’t it?”
Nellie leaned across the table and tapped Alexander’s nose with her forefinger, “But you like it.”

"I love you."
His eyes flew wide and he quickly corrected. "It. I meant to say it. I love it." And you.
He kept his lips firmly closed, worrying it might slip out again. It danced around in his head, really loud, and if he wasn't careful, it was going to come out even when he wasn't trying to talk.

Nellie’s breath caught in her throat. Love? “W-wot?” she stammered, almost automatically. For some reason, the actual admission of ‘love’ shocked Nellie. She could honestly say she had never really thought about whether or not she loved Alexander; she lived with him, kissed him, slept in his bed sometimes, but really just avoided thinking too hard about whatever it was they had together. Did she love him? Nellie certainly liked him a great deal, and loved certain things about Alexander, and she got this warm feeling whenever she hugged him that wasn’t just from his body temperature and she ran away from home to be with him. Was that love? That seemed like a pretty good definition of love, in Nellie’s estimation. Should she say it back? She should say it back. She would. Right now.
“I—oh,” Nellie sighed, and bit down on her lip. It. It had been a mere slip of the tongue. She blushed even pinker, tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, and smiled a little smile at Alexander. She had almost made a huge fool of herself for nothing, the relief of her quick save made her want to giggle. “C’mon, we should pro’lly ‘ead up t’ yer folks’, should we not? It’s almost dinnertime.”

Yeesh.
That was close. He'd nearly given her a heart attack saying the fatal words.
He slung an arm over her shoulders and kissed her in front of her ear. "Yeah, we should. Are you even hungry? You just ate all that candy."

"Oh."
Maybe he'd just assumed she had because Nellie sitting in front of a big bag of candy and not eating any was a phenomenum of epic proportions.
He shrugged. "I apologize, dear," he said, like they were an old married couple. He led her outside. "So I guess Armand and Zizzy have some big announcement they have to tell us."
