Camilla wasn't sure if she should trust that, but somehow she didn't think Cherry would tell. "Well, here's the thing. Jasper actually kind of kidnapped me a while back. He didn't want to, but he belongs to a dream extremist group, the leader of which caught me overhearing some things I should not have. They got caught, I sprung them from prison and he needed to make some extra Kings, so I invited him to stay with me." Her face warmed at the memory of that first night.
"Thing is, they got caught again, and I'm going to rescue them again, But I don't think Jasper will be coming back with me."

“Complicated,” Cherry agreed, with a sympathetic nod. “I had no idea ol’ Jasper’s a Dream. Ya are too, then, I take it? Not that I care. I just never expected it; ya two don’t exactly scream ‘Dream’, ya know?”
She didn’t think Jasper would be coming back with her? “Does that mean I should be lookin’ for a new chef?”

Camilla nodded. After so long, and everything she'd been through, prejudices had been mostly worn away. Although she still tended to think of Nightmares as rougher and uglier, in general. "I had to hide out for a while. The Queen of Dreamland wanted me dead." It was an old story now, part of her lore, and the Fairy Godmother didn't mind being open about it.
"I'm...not sure. It depends on how the rescue ends, I guess. But I don't think I should force him to choose anyways. I might just poof away before he has the chance to say anything..."
Camilla would claim this was for his own good, and she would believe it too. But she was also aware it was mostly to save herself from rejection.

Cherry frowned at her coffee. Men. Can't live with them, can't live without them. Always causing trouble for poor, pretty girls. She contemplated, for a moment, striking a melodramatic pose to fit her inner monologue. But she didn't.
"Not that it's my place ta say," Cherry didn't care what was and what was not her place to say, "but I don't think you should take the choice away from 'im. 'S kinda rude."

Camilla looked a little stunned. She hadn't really thought of it that way...at all. "But...it would be for his own good." She struggled to maintain this view, but it was too easy to agree with Cherry because it meant she still might have a chance...
"I'm supposed to take care of him." She swished her drink around in her glass thoughtfully and then finished it off. "And do you think this guy will accept your time limit?"

"'For his own good? Cammie, he's not a kid, he's a man," Cherry said simply, shortening Camilla's name in that annoying way that she had. "Want a refill? And how come you're supposed to take care of him? You're just his goil, not his momma."
The flapper leaned back on the counter with a sigh. She really didn't know. Cal was very headstrong. He would probably not like getting a deadline. "I dunno. He won't be excited about it, I don't think. But I think he likes me-- a lot. He'll pro'lly go for it."

"I'm his...uhh, Fairy Godmother too." She grinned sheepishly. But Cherry had a point. Camilla tended to treat everyone like they needed taking care of, and while her intentions were good, it could come off as insulting. Perhaps this was why most people were so ungrateful. "I guess I don't want to mother him. But...what if he doesn't come with me?"
Camilla pushed her empty glass towards Cherry and nodded gratefully, "Please. And that's great. Although I'd be careful not to get too attached."

"You just said that ya weren't goinna even let him come anyhows!" Cherry reminded, as she magicked another glass of brandy out of a glass of tap water. "So at least ya have a chance now. Hey, toots-- and if he does leave ya, you can always come in here and see me, okay? On tha house."
She slid the glass to Camilla and flipped the record on her Victrola over before sitting down again. Don't get attached. Right. Well, it might be a little late for that, Cherry thought. She already felt pretty attached. "Oh, I wont," she swore with a flutter of her lashes, "it's gotta be...it's gotta be purely physical."

"I know, but I would...I want him to." She sighed, nursing her drink and thought over Cherry's logic. Yes she had a chance, had a chance that he'd leave. And logically, it made sense. His stay at her place was supposed to be temporary while he saved up money, which he had. And she didn't think she'd be enough to make him stay when Diaspro and James were doing so poorly on their own and they were his family were she was just the fling.
"Ya, I would look for a new cook." She tried to console herself with the fact that it wasn't like she'd never see him again. But it wasn't the same. She really liked having him around.
"And that doesn't sound like much of a plan. Purely physical for a hundred years? Something's going to go wrong. And he obviously already means something to you."

Cherry frowned at Camilla. She felt bad for her. While Cherry had her own relationship problems, true, but she wasn't worried about rejection; she was in no danger of being left. "I dunno what ta tell ya, sweetheart. I guess you just gotta give 'im a reason ta wanna stay, ifyouknowwhatImean."
It was a little mouthy, Cherry decided, for Camilla to just tell her that she was attached. Not that Cherry minded 'mouthy' all that much. She was pretty mouthy herself. "Oh yeah? What gives ya that idea?"

Camilla grinned. She could maybe persuade him to stay. Not that that would be particularly fair, but neither was James and Diaspro being inept at living anywhere without Jasper. "I'll give it a shot, maybe." It wasn't like she had the most rigid moral code anyways.
"Well, it just makes sense. If you were looking for something only physical, you'd pick anyone. But your debating about it with someone in particular." Camilla shrugged and looked at Cherry. Maybe she'd misread the woman, "Aren't you?"

"I guess so..." Cherry muttered. "But, see, he came ta me. I'm horribly lazy, ya see, and I don't much enjoy 'the chase'. And he comes ta me" she repeated, "he says 'Hey. Let us date,' and I says 'Well. I have me a fella,' and he says 'So what?' and I says 'We've been goin' steady,' and he basically says 'Yeah, well, let me know.'" So, the conversation didn't go exactly like that, but it was a good summary, Cherry figured. "So it's not like I chose him or nothin'. We were just friends, then I got a little drunk, and you know how that is."
You know how that is.

"I don't, actually, but I can imagine." Not because she never got drunk, but because she never did so with 'friends'. "So you don't feel anything more than friendship for him? It'll be like a friends with benefits kind of deal? Does he know that?"
Camilla wasn't trying to be annoying, but trying to help people was just part of her.

Cherry shifted uncomfortably in her stool. She had really just decided she would actually see Cal and having to think about all these questions was just reminding her why she was so uncertain to begin with. She groaned in reply to Camilla's questions. "I...I guess. I mean, I do like him a great deal and I think it could be said that there's somethin' more than friendship there. I really, like, admire him, too. I guess admire is the word." Admittedly, vocabulary was not Cherry's strong point.
"He doesn't know anything just yet. He doesn't even know that I've decided to sleep with him again."

"When are you planning on telling him?" Camilla grinned, "It sounds like he'll be pretty stoked. Besides, it's not like you're doing anything wrong. No one would expect you to wait so long."
Except maybe her boyfriend, but men were hardly anything to base your movements on. Camilla sighed and realized she was going to let Jasper choose and if he didn't stay then that was his problem and she would just find a way to make it work.
